P&P is a subsidiary of Sonangol E.P., created by the Permanent Commission of the Council of Ministers from the December 6 resolution 4/91. The main social objective or activities are prospecting, research, development and the production of carbohydrates.

Sonangol Pumping

The creation of Sonangol Pesquisa & Producao S.A.R.L., results, on the one hand, from the materialisation of some of Sonangol P&P's social objectives, and on the other hand, from the successes and results of its oil activities in Angola which have lead to the adoption of a decentralisation policy.Today the company is a concession of Bloco 5 (in partnership with Norsk Hydro, Amoco and Nir Israel).

Being in deep waters the future of Angola in terms of oil reserves, P&P acquired 20% of Sonangol E.P.'s participation in the blocks 14, 19, 21, 22 and 24, and 25% in block 25.

The same procedure was followed for the "ultra-deep", where P&P associated with Norsk Hydro in order to operate Block 34 through the SONAP subsidiary.

CHALLENGES OF THE NEW MILLENIUM

SONANGOL DISTRIBUIDORA

Sonangol Distribuidora is responsible for the distribution of stocks, fuel commercialisation and production of lubricants. There are 5 regional markets in the country for the commercialisation of its products: North (Luanda, Bengo, Cabinda, Zaire, Uije, and North K.), South (Hula, Namibe and Cunene), North east (Malanje, Moxico, Luanda North and Luanda South, West (Benguela and South K.) and Center East (Huambo, Bie and Kuando Kubango).

Modern and dynamic, this company is getting ready to meet the challenges of the new millennium -namely the exposure to international competition resulting from the market opening. Added to that, Sonangol Distribuidora will acquire in-depth knowledge of the market, its needs and demands, specialisation of commercial segments and of its human resources with staff specialised in high tech and advanced management.

"For companies, the only constant factor is change" - Sonangol Distribuidora is currently going through an important restructuration process, necessary for its activities in an economy which runs by the rules of competition. That is why the company continues to prepare and train its staff - in order to meet the needs of an activity, which is fundamental for the development of Angola.

It started as a Division of Holding, responsible for the support of the oil industry. From a status of Division it passed to a status of Direction, the first step towards autonomy. Today, it has become SONAIR S.A.R.L.. In 1999, both versions, fix and mobile wings, transported more than 130,000 passengers. The fleet is composed of 3 Boeing 727; 3 Beetchcraft B 200; 2 Beetchcraft B 350; 1 Fokker 27; 2 Fokker 50; 1 Falcon 20; 4 Twin Otter; 4 Dauphin N2; 3 Sikorsky and 1 Douphin N.

Apart from transporting passengers, SONAIR also assists in off shore operations, loading and distribution of fuel in the country.

It will soon become an international company. There have recently been negotiations for a Luanda-Houston connection; with stop at Ilha do Sal, the Island of Sal, in Cape Verde.
