With its treasures of people, nature and history, Bulgaria has slowly started to make inroads in a business until recently seen as accessible to a secluded few.

For several years already the state-owned Boyana Film Company is providing a full package of services for foreign filmmakers. "Whenever a foreign team comes to Bulgaria we witness one and the same evolution. At the very beginning they are very cautious - they don't know the food, the people. After a couple of weeks they wish to come back to Bulgaria, again and again.", Boyana Films' Executive Director, Evgeni Mihailov said.

The company is now in the process of privatization. "We would like to attract the interest of many big international film making companies. Boyana Film has already attracted Kodak's interest. Maybe, it is not a mere coincidence that the hall in Los Angeles where the Oscars are awarded is called Kodak Theatre…" Mihailov mused.
