Board of Directors:

Boris M. Kornoukhov - General Director
Sergey A. Alekhin - Financial Director
Vladimir V. Tarasov - Operations Director

History

The Romona history was traced back to the sixties when the first radio-navigation department of Sakhalin Seismic Exploration Company was launched to provide positioning offshore. In hard conditions of Russian Far-East wildness and with imperfect equipment of analogue age Romona predecessors did a great work.
Almost 30 years of experience were brought to Romona that was established in Sakhalin, Russia in 1991 as independent company.

Precise Positioning And Navigation

For years, Romona has been specialising in the provision of precise positioning services and solutions for various onshore and offshore applications. Some of those are as follows:

- Rig move
- Pipeline and cable laying
- Structure installation and commissioning
- Fleet monitoring
- Anchor laying
- Vertical Seismic Profiling
- Underwater intervention, repairing and inspection
- Rig/ship/vessel/platform/floating structure position monitoring
- Mooring
- Site/route survey
- Oceanographic study
- Sampling/coring
- Onshore installation and construction

The Global Positioning System (GPS) allows Romona to provide Clients with highly accurate positioning. Since its foundation Romona has been involved in the development of Differential GPS technologies. Subject to client's requirements Romona uses both terrestrial radio links and Inmarsat linked sub-meter DGPS systems, as well as centimeter RTK systems.

In the last few years a totally new concept in GPS positioning was developed and introduced, providing worldwide horizontal accuracy on the decimeter order. The concept employs a technique, in which orbit and clock corrections are determined for each GPS satellite continuously utilizing the global network of reference stations. These corrections are broadcasted to users via the satellite links and can be used at any location, regardless of distance to any reference station, making positioning systems realizing the new technique truly global. Romona also uses the aforesaid very precise systems for various applications.
Many tasks require accurate positioning for sites, underwater vehicles, and towing sensors. To provide those Romona utilizes different acoustic systems and combination of the above-mentioned systems, namely LBL, USBL, and LUSBL.
"State-of-the-art" systems are provided for offshore navigation, including dedicated software and necessary peripherals. Dedicated software is used as DGPS Quality Control (QC) Package to compute and display internal and external fix reliability. Real-time navigation system is capable to provide Multiple Correction Link/Multiple Reference Station solutions to ensure quality data monitoring and support.
The range of positioning equipment and navigation systems in all areas of operations is subject to continuous monitoring and upgrading to meet changing market requirements.

Hydrographic And Geophysical Surveys

Romona offers sophisticated analysis tools and techniques for the offshore industry, such as:

• Bathymetry and image surveying for information on the sea-sediment interface, seabed morphology and imagery

• Sediment image profiling for geological analysis of the sub-bottom layers with deep penetration and high resolution

• Magnetic mapping for scientific and engineering analysis and detection of ferrous objects for marking and disposal.

Offshore survey vessel can be equipped with:

• Multi beam echo sounder with a backscatter imagery capability

• Conventional echo sounder

• Side Scan Sonar

• Magnetometer

• Analogue Sub-bottom profiler (boomer / sparker / pinger / chirp)

• Multi-channel high resolution digital seismic profiling system

• High speed data links for the data transfer

• Full onboard processing and charting

Several types of shallow water survey launches equipped with dedicated survey equipment are provided for inshore surveys.
Integrated data acquisition systems are utilized to log and store the data acquired from different survey sensors. Then this data is output in desired exchange format for further processing. Swath bathymetric data are used for producing 3-D images and digital terrain models.
Backscatter data acquired by side scan sonar are digitized and processed using dedicated computerized systems. The sonar imagery is combined with navigation inputs to geocode the data in real-time.

Applications of these systems include:

• Seafloor Search and Pipeline Inspection

• Q-route Surveillance

• Seafloor Classification

• Small Object Detection/Site Clearance

• Cable/Pipeline Route Survey

For further processing Romona use geoprocessing and mapping systems. It is mosaicking and mapping package that builds a georeferenced visual database of images, vectorized sonar feature extractions, other spatial data, and merge backscatter images with bathymetric contours.
Magnetometry data are recorded and displayed with Automatic Anomaly Detection utilizing dedicated logging software, which is offered with any magnetometer.
The seismic data acquisition and processing systems are also available.

Meteorogical And Oceanographic Services

Offshore industry requires knowledge of tide variations, current layer movements, wave parameters as well as meteorological data such as wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, air pressure, relative humidity, rainfall and visibility for input to their operational planning and design process.
Romona has capability to collect, process and analyse metocean data utilising a wide range of seabed deployed, sub-floated, surface floated and onshore deployed metocean tools, instruments and equipment: tide gauges, water level recorders, current profilers and current meters, wave rider buoys and integrated meteorological stations.
The data are processed and analysed with a comprehensive report being supplied to the client.

Underwater Surveys And Inspections

To support offshore works ranged from, but not limited to, any drilling/well intervention operation, inspection, and maintenance, as well as repair of trees, flowlines, manifolds, pipelines, and jackets, Romona provides dedicated survey equipment and data acquisition software onboard survey vessel and fitted into ROV / diver. Utilizing these equipment and software various data are acquired and processed for numerous tasks, such as:

• Visual inspection

• Pipeline crossover survey

• Anode inspection

• Cathodic potential survey

• Pipe bends survey

• Wall thickness measurements

• Mapping of the pipelines

The offered equipment and systems ensure consistent volume and quality of acquired data.

Land Surveys

Romona establishes highly accurate geodetic networks utilising GPS static observations and conventional methods. GPS kinematic and real-time kinematic (RTK) surveys as well as conventional topographic surveys can be carried out for any project.

Personnel

Romona employs graduates from well-reputed colleges and universities of the Russian Federation, including:

• Surveyors

• Hydrographers

• Geodesists

• Geophysicists

• Oceanographers

• Electronic engineers

• Acoustic engineers

• Radio engineers

Romona’s personnel are highly qualified and have a wide experience in each particular field. They have worked in different regions of the world: from the Bering Strait above the Arctic Circle to the China South Sea at the Equator. All the personnel follow regularly technical and safety training courses in order to perform works in the most professional and safe manner.
