Brief biography of PTK

Post and Telecommunications of Kosovo was established in 1959, initially as Post, Telephone and Telegraph of Kosovo, to be transformed into Post and Telecommunications of Kosovo in 1999, after 10 years from the time when all its employees have been driven out of their workplaces by force.

After the war, negotiating teams of the PTK, KFOR and UNMIK enabled the legal return of employees to their workplaces.

At that time, postal services were not available, whereas the Telephony and Telegraphy of Kosovo as well as international links were almost no operational. Vala mobile operator (then Vala900) started operations in 2000.

After 10 years of efforts, PTK has established the following business units: Vala mobile operator, Post of Kosovo, Telecom of Kosovo, and Sales and Distribution. The first three business units of the PTK are licensed by the Kosovo Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, while such license is not required for the activity of other units.

On 29 June 2005, PTK was transformed into a joint-stock-company under the new name of PTK J.S.C., while during the year 2006 it has undergone the full internal restructuring process that resulted with implementation of the customer-focused business philosophy and the new image.

PTK, as a joint-stock-company, has a clear future mission and vision.

Mission of the PTK is:

“To always be the leader in providing superior (communication) services that improve the lives of all Kosovars, through the passion of our people and leveraging proven cutting edge technologies”.

Vision of the PTK is:

“To be the driving force in creating prosperity for the nation and enriching the lives of Kosovars everywhere”.
PTK J.S.C. applies nondiscriminatory employment policy and it offers employment opportunity to different professionals.
PTK is focused in implementation of the major project of fiber optic expansion throughout the territory of Kosovo, to be completed by the end of 2009. Fiber optic shall be expanded in all the schools of Kosovo, state institutions, banks and so forth.

Another important project is the 6th phase of Vala mobile network expansion, which shall enable expansion of its capacity, provision of higher quality services, increase of the customers’ number to 1 million 800 thousand and expansion of network coverage throughout Kosovo.

Post and Telecommunications of Kosovo J.S.C. has since July 2005 launched its website: www.ptkonline.com, wherein all interested individuals may look through the latest offers and developments of the PTK J.S.C. or any existing problems that PTK is facing.
