Position of the Company on the Market

The company CESKE RADIOKOMUNIKACE a.s. has a leading position on the market in the area of wireless broadcasting and the transmission of signals. It provides services in three main areas of activity:

Telecommunication services related to the transmission of voice, data and other signals
Television broadcasts
Radio broadcasts

In all of these areas, the company CESKE RADIOKOMUNIKACE a.s. holds a predominant position on the domestic market. This position results particularly from a high quality technical and personnel background and from the capacity of the company.

INVESTMENTS

The past years saw the further development of telecommunication services, which was represented especially by the continuing intensive construction of a digital transmission net, including its spine and separate access routes.
One of the main parts of its development of telecommunication services was the further enlargement of the network of access routes for GSM, especially for the company RadioMobil a.s. h construction of the data network still continues development of telecommunication services. A new base station, which serves as the basic element of the VSAT network, was put into operation at the ground station of satellite communication.

Programme operators appointed by law (Czech Television) and oprators holding a licence, and this is done through established broadcasting networks of TV transmitters and TV coverters. Even in this area further improvement of the quality and the increase in signal coverage was achieved during 1998 thanks to the construction of a new transmitter which enables viewers to receive sound in mono, stereo and duo versions. A new transmitter, Susice, with 5 kW of power, located in Svatobor, was put into operation to broadcast CT2 programmes. Besides this, the construction of a network of television converters for both programmes of Czech Television continued during the year. A total of 54 new stations were put into operation, out of this 11 were for the programme CT1 and 43 for CT2. In the past year construction of new broadcast construction of new broadcast capacities for television companies which broadcast on a licence basis and which operate in the Czech Republic included in a new transmitter with 5 kW of power in Ostrava - Hostalkovice for the company Premiera TV, which substantially improved coverage of the North Moravia area with its TV Prima programme.

Construction of seven new low power transmitters also continued according to the requirements of this company. Our company built two new converters for the circuit of the television programme NOVA in accord with the concluded contracts.

One of the aims of our company - to constantly improve the quality of TV broadcast signals - was achieved in the past year on a license basis. In the field of radio broadcasting in the FM waveband new broadcasting capacities were established, both for Czech Radio (Cesky rozhlas) and for some radio broadcast operators holding a licence.

In the past year our company has also paid a great deal of attention to further savings of electricity by increasing the operational reliability of individual technological devices, particularly with reagrd to their electric supply. A lot of buildings were equipped with new emergency supplies (DA) and devices for undisturbed power supply (UPS). Modern measuring equipment has a great influence on the quality of operation of individual kinds of equipment and thus especially on the satisfaction of customers with the services provided by our company, and several million Czech Crowns were expended last year on the purchase of this equipment.

The total amount of financial means invested by the company CESKE RADIOKOMUNIKACE a.s. in 1998 in all areas of its activities reached nearly 1 billion CZK.

CESKE RADIOKOMUNIKACE a.s. is a telecommunication company with a national presence specialising in that part of telecommunications which is characterised by wireless broadcasting and transmissions of signals.

The company CESKE RADIOKOMUNIKACE a.s.provides services in three main areas of activity:

Telecommunication services related to the transmission of voice, data and other signals
Services related to television broadcasting
Services related to radio broadcasting

The company CESKE RADIKOMUNIKACE a.s. is responsible for national, regional and local broadcasting and transmission of the television signal for operators appointed by law, operators holding a license and registered operators. The company holds a predominant position on the market in national and regional broadcasting through a network of transmitters. This position on the market is the result of the high quality background of the company, both technically and personnel-wise, as well as in the capacity of its transmitters.

The company CESKE RADIOKOMUNIKACE a.s. ensures the construction and operation of new transmitters and converters. The basic net uses transmitters with 2 kW to 50 kW of power. In the secondary net of TV converters, 2 kW to 100 kW of power is used.
