MERO CR, a.s. (International Pipelines) is the only oil transporter in the Czech Republic and the dominant company securing storage of state oil reserves. The share holding company specializes in large capacity pipeline transportation of oil and its long-term storage. Oil is transported via the Druzba and IKL Pipelines, each having an annual transportation capacity of 10 million tons. Both pipelines lead to the central oil tank facility, which has 10 oil tanks of 800,000 m3 total storage capacity.
Since 1997 the company has been expanding and developing activities in telecommunication services, with the aid of an optical cable installed alongside the IKL Pipeline. Within modernization of the Druzba Pipeline, an optical cable will be laid along this transportation system as well, thus enabling further expansion of telecommunication networks and services.

MERO CR, a.s. was founded on 1 January 1994 by a merger of PETROTRANS, a.s., Kralupy nad Vltavou and MERO IKL, a.s., Kralupy nad Vltavou. Through this merger, operation of the Druzba pipeline and construction of the IKL pipeline more incorporated into one unit.

The history of MERO CR dates back to the 1960s when the Druzba Pipeline was constructed, commissioned and put into regular operation. Till 1991 the pipeline was operated by Benzina, a state owned company. Transpetrol, a.s. was then established in Bratislava and ran the whole oil-pipeline system on the territory of the former Czech Federal Republic until 1 January 1993.

With the split of the Czech Federal Republic Transpetrol, a.s. was also divided into two subjects. Transpetrol, a.s. was also divided into two subjects. Transpetrol, a.s. was set up in the Slovak Republic, while in the Czech Republic Petrotrans, a.s., was created under the auspices of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade. Under the approved privatization project, by 1 November 1993, the assets of Petrotrans were transferred to the Czech National Property Fund, which became their sole owner. The obligation of this company was to secure the transport of oil to Czech refineries through the Druzba Pipeline.

The aim of the Czech Republic to construct a new pipeline and enable the connection of Czech refineries to the West-European oil pipeline network is closely linked with the names of several companies.

To manage the construction of the new Ingolstadt - Kralupy nad Vltavou (IKL) pipeline, Chemopetrol IKL was set up as a limited company by the refiners Chemopetrol, s.p. and Kaucuk, s.p. and the Central Oil Tank Facility in Nelahozeves. To enable the Czech National Property Fund to participate in financing this pipeline, and to comply with the government's plans for restructuring the petrochemical-refining into the public limited company MERO IKL on 1 October 1993.

The preparatory activities, including the discussion proper and construction of the new pipeline on German territory, were conducted by Chemopetrol Pipeline, GmbH, of Munich, set up on 24 April 1991 by the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade. In February 1993 Chemopetrol Pipeline, GmbH was transferred to Chemopetrol IKL, Ltd. hands. The ownership then went to MERO IKL, a.s. Since January 1, 1994 MERO CR, a.s. has been the only partner of Chemopetrol Pipeline, GmbH. In December 1996 the subsidiary company was renamed as MERO Pipeline, GmbH. This change took place upon the completion of the tanking site and administrative center in the vicinity of the Bavarian town Vohburg an der Donau, where the company was relocated.

The character of MERO CR, a.s. implies our aims - mass transfer of energy and information for currently existing and potential customers. We pride ourselves on the security and reliability of our operations. Emphases is placed upon maximizing environmental protection, implementing ISO 14 001 standards and continuously improving all our activities.
