Western doorway to the East: 15 years of independence

    To be published in
    ABC

A new era is knocking on the door of Georgia, a Caucasian country that is strategically located in the crossroad of Asia and Europe. After a pacific Revolution, the "rose revolution" in November of 2003, Georgia has made a U-haul in its political conception and the economic strategy has changed the mentality of the Georgian population.

“The philosophy is very simple: what is good for business is good for the country. That is why we privatise, we reduce the taxes and we try to promote the emergence of new Georgian business”, Minister of Economic Development, Irakli Chogovadze, says. According to the World Bank, Georgia is one of the countries that has minimized more its costs to operate business. Moreover, in the next two years, Georgia could be the second country in the world that will have abolished all the customs taxes.

Georgia is prepared to make and to receive investments. After several years of huge problems with corruption, the Georgian government has made it transparent that the lack of integrity or honesty is something from the past. The new government is making progress and has reformed the tax code, improved tax administration, and increased tax enforcement.

In addition, the simplifying investment procedures have demonstrated that Georgia is open to make business and promote the neo-liberal economic system. “This government has brought the stability, economic growth, and investment and infrastructure programs. It is not just in economy, it is in everything” Jemal Inaishvili, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, says.

World Investment News has prepared a 250 page Investors Guide with a complete Country Report, Company Profiles, Top Interviews with members of the government and top businesspeople, special links, photos and much more. This report is a must for investors seeking new opportunities in Georgia.
