Gamcel, the National and Leading GSM Operator was established on the 25th-May-2001, as a subsidiary company of the giant telecommunications company Gamtel (Gambia Telecommunications Company). Since its inception, Gamcel has become a major service provider in voice and data in the Gambia; Gamcel has positioned itself as the only national and leading GSM operator that has a customer base of about five hundred thousand subscribers.

Gamcel was established in 2001, being the first operator to start GSM mobile communication in the Gambian market, Gamcel has always been using its resources to provide its customers with one of the best and most reliable customer care services, maintaining its corporate and social responsibility by providing the community with the most beneficial promotions and services that are live changing.

Gamcel has been able to for the 1^st time in The Gambia offer affordable mobile communications to the doorstep of Gambians in the Greater Banjul Area and in the provinces.

It has also launched 3G data services to cater for the ever growing need for data.

Gamcel has engaged in  promotions such as the (seven) Yaay Boorom cars, providing power tillers for our back to the land promotion for farmers in the rural areas, sponsorship of football, operation save a baby and of course the magnificent house given to the winner during the Kerr Gui Promotion.

Gamcel’s most recent and high profile project was the launching of high speed data services. (3G) for its customers. Gamcel prides itself as being the fastest internet provider in the Greater Banjul Area and also at a very affordable price in a very competitive market.

Other projects currently embarked on are the commissioning of cell sites in the rural areas of Jaloko, Bureng, and Kampasa.

As the national GSM service provider, Gamcel has always been involved in maintaining the principles of the society and a champion in safeguarding our cultural values and norms. Gamcel has contributed and added value to the lives of ordinary Gambians in the sectors of education (Payment of tuition fees) sports (Sponsorship of Gambia for Gold initiative worth 10M Dalasis), Agriculture (provision of power tillers and trailers in the rural areas) and health.

Gamcel has plans to expand 3G cell sites within the Greater Banjul Area and all rural areas.

We also plan to continue with our corporate social responsibilities of religious affairs, health, sports, agriculture, and all other activities that are key towards satisfying the needs of our customers and national development of the nation.

Gamcel also plans to continue promotions that would meet the customers’ needs and satisfactions.

It has been established as national telecoms institution mandated to operate in the Gambia, but not withstanding its business operations is global because it has partners around the world, having membership to the ITU, GSMA to name a few.
