HISTORY

Airkenya Aviation, a privately owned ltd. liability company, was formed in 1985 through the merger of Air Kenya and Sunbird Aviation, two companies with over 20 years of general aviation experience in East Africa. Airkenya now provides a network of scheduled services throughout Kenya and operates charters within the East Africa region.

DESTINATIONS

Destinations served by the scheduled services from Nairobi are Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu and Kiwayu on the Coast of Kenya. They also linked by a "coastline connector" scheduled service originating in Mombasa. Airkenya also covers the game parks of Amboseli, Nanyuki, Lewa Down, Samburu and the Masai Mara.

OPERATIONS

In 1998 Airkenya carried over 155,000 passengers on its scheduled services, i.e., the company flew over 100 million passenger/kilometers. These activity figures are comparable with airlines in America listed in the 50 largest regional airlines for that area.

The scheduled services are operated under the carrier code QP and are listed in computerized reservations systems such as Galileo.

The main administration, flight operations and engineering base is at Wilson Airport, approximately 4 Km from Nairobi city center.

In addition it has previously been cleared for carrying VIP passengers such as the British Royal Family, H.H. Aga Khan, ex-president Jimmy Carter and senior Cabinet Minister of several countries.

INSURANCE

Insurance for the aircraft, passengers and third parties is placed in the London underwriting market through the company's brokers, Sedwick Aviation Ltd, London.

The Dash 7, Shorts 360 and Fokker F27 aircraft carry a combined passenger/third party liability cover of US$ 100 million and the other aircrafts a limit of US$ 50 million.
