Trepca is an enterprise of special importance to Kosovo. The Trepca facility includes a big number of enterprises from mining, to metallurgy, as well as activities in the chemical field, metal processing and finalization in numerous others production and manufacturing activities. Total value of metals resources and ores according to the prepared business plans for Trepca is an estimates 1, 022 477 000 $

The minerals and bi products produced at Trepca were well known in international markets and enjoyed a great reputation. Trepca had at one point in time been a large producer of a wide assortment of primary products, semi finish productions and final products.

Primary products produced at Trepca:

- Ore and lead, zinc concentrate ,

Metals with at high refined level:

- Refined lead and alloys of lead, silver, gold, bizmuthe, elctrolite zinc and cadmium

Final products

-Sulphuric acid, phosphorus acid, hydro-fluoride acid, residue super phosphate powder and granulated stone, NPK residue, criolite, sulphate aluminum of all the types

- Accumulator starter for motorcycles, industrial batteries, nickel cadmium battery, lithium battery and batteries for small lights and heavy duty lightning -Hunting ammunition, pipes and lead wire, case-shot, parts for balancing

-Zinc iron-sheet and production from iron-sheet, black and zinc pipe, wire and steel rope, discontinuer zinc, enamel and Teflon container, wire for fences etc.

- Electro contacts material, production of decorative elements, complete of knifes, spoon and forks, jewelry from gold and from silver,

-Production of trailers, wagons, electro locomotive for mining and equipment and spare parts reserve for metallurgy and for mining

In 1926, the English association "Selekton trust" found the enterprise "Trepca" - Mines Limited. In 1930 itstarted probation production (approximately 500 t/day), while in year 1932 was started regular production with capacity from 2000 t ore per day. Immediately started the construction of capacities of lead metallurgy in Zveçan

Peak production in the mining complex history was reached in 1968, this capacity has increased since with the completion and realization of the first project in lead processing. This increased capacity brought employment opportunities to a big number of Kosovar. Projects for producing industrial batteries, nickel cadmium batteries and dry fit batteries have been one of the primary and most resilient activities that Trepca has engaged itself on.

Parallel to these developments considerable investments were made in modernizing the facility and equipment of the mining process and the metallurgy reconstruction .Stan Terg Mine has received capital investments with flotation in international markets in order to build in Tuneli i Pare . Considerable funding was devoted there as well as in Kizhnica and in Artane. The funding was mainly oriented towards the reconstruction, modernizing and increased capacity expansion in lead and zinc metallurgy.

Trepca was known as the only exporter of cleaned metal blocks and was reputable for its ability to rapidly penetrate world market with its large range of final production. During the business year 1983, Trepca ranked third place in Yugoslavia´s GDP balance sheet.
After 1981, Trepca faced a stituation derived from the many political problems, which achieved topnotch in year 1989-1990, while in whole Trepca Company there was applied receivership s from Serbia Assembly. Management placed by force and part of remain Serbian workers started to continue work, but based in data they never excess capacities use more than 10 % and they caused big direct and indirect damages, where big part of facilities can not be repaired.

On 29.06 1992 Trepca become (understandable as well by force) cautionary association where action were all of them which in meantime they had possibility to witness for debts that Trepca have on them. Debts and Trepca obligation with one arbitrary decision become actions. Ownership problems in Trepca were creating during the regime from Serbians organs, in situate when Albanian workers and their supervisors were dismissed from work. These changes are done in discriminated base that for according to the rule for forming Agency, these changes don't have value.

In September 2000 UNMIK engaged consortium ITT for situation in Trepca. After six month work they presented an audit of the company with several suggestions. Later experts were called in, and a team CSA organization which according to the basic materials prepared from ITT propose " subjects " of activities as well ten concrete business plan. Local experts were engaged in presenting the technical-technology datas.

Local experts sustaining in prepared materials from CSA expert team have prepared operative plan for steering the production , market analysis, feasibility study and business plan for Trepca main capacities. The first phase of this plan was to create the necessary enviromental and safety conditions, as well as the rehabilitation of the existing equipment. This first phase should allow the company to restore and sustain production. The second phase plans to gradually renew the equipmentin order to increase production. In general terms it could be said that if the right funding was provided for the first phase, production can resume at once. According to various assessments each production units needs at least six intensive months of improvements in order to restart regular production. In the first and second year of production concentrates will be exported because the reconstruction of Zinc Metallurgy would take some 18 months.
