General evaluation of the Company's operations in 2000

During the NATO strikes in the neighboring Yugoslavia, the country faced the problem of huge number of refugees from Kosovo resulting in significant fall of the turnover of games of chance. Nevertheless the management team overcame the problems and successfully completed the financial year.

In accordance with the latest amendments in the Law on Games of Chance the State prescribes licenses for operating games of chance to be granted on a public bidding. The starting price for the licenses will be prescribed by the Government. The latest Law also provides for implementation of interactive games of chance via telecommunication media (gaming on the Internet etc) which has not been present so far in the lottery business in Macedonia.

During the year of 2000, two foreign companies expressed their interest in becoming strategic partner of the Lottery of Macedonia - a lottery operator from Bulgaria and a company involved in lottery business from Greece.

The LOTTERY is interested to proceed with the modernization of its operations, to install an on-line system for the management of its operations, to introduce new lottery games, fixed odds betting and other games of chance.
