history

Le Meridien was originally a French Company and opened its first hotel Le Meridien Etoile in Paris in 1972. In 1994, Forte bought Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts by which time there were a total of 58 hotels in the chain.

Following the Granada takeover of Forte in January 1996, Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts has gone from strength to strength. Thanks to a rapid expansion program combined with the re-branding of Forte Grand and exclusive hotels, the International division now boasts a portfolio of 104 hotels worldwide, till recently owned by principal hotels Ltd, part of Nomura Financial group who is now operating more than 144 hotels in 55 country.
