INTRODUCTION

During almost a hundred years of the Company's existence, many generations of brick and tile makers have been putting great effort to produce and present their products and to find out the ways to use them. That effort was in the context of public relations development, in the comprehension of communication skill with various target groups.

The industrial development last century has been the most tumultuous period of modern civilization. Effective and efficient today would be out-of-date and exceeded tomorrow. And what about a brick, a tile, a building block? They are still in the building scene, in their full splendor of good, high-quality, natural, healthy material.

We are proud to have the opportunity again to present to you our innovations together with the world of builders from Kanjiža in this modern way, which symbolizes the vitality and readiness of POTISJE to build bridges between tradition and future.

THE COMPANY

Stock Company of Building Material Production "POTISJE KANJIŽA" has belonged to the top of the Yugoslav economy for years. It is certainly the most successful firm in its production field.

The Company was established in 1903, but it met the full recognition and accelerated growth after World War II. The most important events from almost a hundred year old firm testify these facts:

o in 1962 the section of hollow elementa was built;

o in 1968 the first automatic tile production line in the country was put into operation;

o in 1973 another section of tile production, technologically even more modernized, was put into operation;

o in 1983 the section of decorative and usable ceramics "MAJOLIKA' commenced the production and employed the people who were in real love with Kanjiža clay besides being the first-class masters of their trade. The same year the tile "Continental" was launched to the market, today the trademark of the Company;

o in 1988 the third section of tile production was put into operation;

o in 1995 in "Majolika" Section the production of stove tiles commenced;

"POTISJE KANJIŽA" has been significantly investing recently into the investigation and supply of raw material as well as into its final processing which should raise far and wide known quality to an even higher level. The investment into the new surface excavation site providing clay for the next fifty years, the purchase of high-quality mills for primary raw material processing, the construction of clay transportation system, the establishing and the improvement of a unique information and command system are to function in order to create "POTISJE KANJIŽA" of the third millennium.

These facts clearly indicate that the reputation based on quality and wide assortment can be made only by permanent investment in the development and modernization of the production. That orientation of "POTISJE KANJIŽA" is also unique in the production field of the Company, which has been proved by numerous recognitions in the country and abroad.

In the production sections of "POTISJE KANJIŽA" around 1,000 employees produce 60,000,000 cover elements and almost the same number of building and interstorey construction elements. All products of "POTISJE KANJIŽA" based on baked clay are ecologically clean, of long duration, enabling building objects with sound microclimate to live in. Besides their esthetic quality they have the characteristics that improve life in a general sense.
By estimating its past and tradition, past labour of earlier generations and by permanent investment in the development and personnel "POTISJE KANJIŽA" lays the foundation of the guarantee that it will always be and remain

ABOUT KANJIZA

Numerous archeological finds from the earliest periods of neolith prove the early population of the area where the town of Kanjiža is situated today. The classical period and especially the period of the decline of the Roman Empire, denotes the period of large migrations of nomadic peoples, beginning with the Huns up to the Slavs, and we can indisputably say that the mixture of peoples, being so much characteristic for the area, originates from the distant past.

In the first half of the XX century the first mechanized mills and brick plants appear, the port was built and the industrialization takes a swing - based on the first industrial fields of Kanjiža's private economy. At the same time it was the turning point in the development of Kanjiža, as the population previously predominantly agricultural, started to turn to new fields of economy i.e. industry and spa tourism.

The citizens of Kanjiža realized long before that the land in their region is life-giving. Fruitful to a farmer, granted to a patient, usable to a brick maker. The Commune of Kanjiža, which encompasses 399 square km with 13 settlements and the very town of Kanjiža, became one of the most developed regions in Yugoslavia, only because the nature determined to place here, in the North of our country, in the Northern Banat District, on the bank of the river Tisa - the best clay and people who were gifted by will and skill.

FIM - The Plant of Insulating Material, KERAMIKA, The Stock Company of Ceramic Tile Production and POTISJE KANJIŽA, point out the town of Kanjiža as the most important center in the industry of building material in Yugoslavia and in a wider region. The Agricultural Complex and the Rehabilitation and Recreation Center, popularly called BANJA KANJIŽA, provide Kanjiža with two more economic traits: agriculture and tourism.
