INTRODUCTION

Slovakia is a young country with great economic, production and human resource potential, situated directly in the heart of Europe, with high political and economic ambitions to become part of united Europe.

The American Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic (herein "AmCham") began its operations in 1993 in Bratislava, the capital of the Slovak Republic. In a few years it become a collection for more than 200 multinational and Slovak companies including many significant investors in the Slovak Republic. AmCham Slovakia is currently one of the largest and most active foreign Chambers of Commerce in the Slovak Republic. AmCham Slovakia "builds bridges" among businesses and assists them in fulfilling their goals and missions as a collective, rather than on their own. AmCham contributes to the development of a healthy business climate to improve conditions not only for its members, but also for other businesses operating in Slovakia. AmCham also supports the influx of investment into Slovakia and endeavors to create and support a positive business environment, which supports the development of investments existing in the Slovak Republic. Through all of its efforts, AmCham strives to increase the quality of everyday life in the Slovak Republic.

AmCham is here to offer to its member's assistance in new contacts, advocacy and information, membership directory and AmCham's monthly magazine "Connection".

ORGANIZING EVENTS

One of the main activities of AmCham Slovakia is organizing events for its members, supporters and friends. AmCham organizes monthly Business Cocktails and Business Breakfasts, Business Seminars, Business Luncheons, Roundtable discussions, etc. There are three great seasonal events throughout the year: a Spring Ball, the 4th of July / Independence Day Celebration and the Thanksgiving Gala Dinner. For university students, there is an opportunity to find excellent employment possibilities at AmCham's Annual Internship Fair.

OUR TASK FORCES

In 2001, AmCham established its Task Forces-working groups created from representatives of member companies focusing their activities on monitoring and evaluating the legislative and business situation in the Slovak Republic. These Task Forces offer comments on prepared drafts of legislation and propos changes to the drafts of legislation. This is also done in cooperation with the Government on drafting of the new legislation. Currently there are three Task Forces: Manufacturing, Commercial Code and Residency Permit.
OUR MEMBERS

Another very important pillar of AmCham Slovakia is its Directory of Members. This document includes names, description of activities and contacts for more than 200 member companies of AmCham Slovakia. It also contains basic information about the Slovak Republic, contacts for Slovak representation in USA and USA representation in Slovakia, contacts for other AmChams in Europe, etc.

AmCham issues a monthly magazine called "Connection" which informs AmCham members about AmCham activities, upcoming events, new members, current issues in Slovakia, etc.

In the next year, AmCham will focus to further development of its services to its members. AmCham members benefit form lobbying, troubleshooting, networking, research, cooperation with the Government on drafting of legislation, consulting to the Government on problems solving, opportunity to work in Task Forces, addressing comments to drafts of legislations, administrative and consulting services, contacts with the Government representatives and VIPs, listing of business/trade opportunities, and many other services.

The American Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic is an independent, non-profit organization. To secure its independence, the Chamber does not accept subsidies from the Government of the United States of America, the Slovak Government or any other governmental or political entity. It is self-supporting and entirely dependent on contributions from its members. AmCham is dedicated to serving all of its members, large and small, whatever the focus of their business. As a member of AmCham, your company will be a member of the largest, most prestigious, most influential and most active Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic.
