SEA BREEZE DIVE CENTRE

Pool's exercise at Sea-Breeze Dive Center

Tanzania with its magnificent National Parks and game Reserves, the highest mountain on the Africa continent and long unspoiled Indian Ocean coastline, is being recognised as a jewel in Africa tourism crown.

Much of the coast Provides and idyllic setting and a paradise for scuba divers and snorkels. Unique as part of very special East Africa, no other region of the world has so much to offer the visitors, who takes away unforgettable memories of Africa wildlife and marine life. Their experiences also foment a growing concern for wildlife and marine conservation through the world.

There is a good variety of diving including wall diving, coral gardens and pinnacles. Population of fish in particular is good, with a high diversity of species.

  • A minimum of two dives is planned for each day, with additional dives during the day is possible including night dives on request.


  • All dive equipment is regularly maintained and checked prior to each dive.


  • All rental equipment comes with an octopus and spg/ dept gauge.


  • Cylinders are Aluminium 9,10 or 12 litre.


  • A stingray 7 meter rib with two 85 HP Yamaha motors, which can transport 10 divers comfortably to the various dive sites are used.


  • The boat is equipped with emergency oxygen unit, first aid kits, fish finder and GPS.


  • All diving quests are required to produce their certification cards and logbooks when first book a dive.


  • Divers who cannot show a logbook or have not been diving for period longer than six months, will have to do a scuba review program.


  • Cost of scuba review program $50.


  • A qualified Dive master or Instructor leads all dives.


  • Diving courses from introduction to scuba diving to dive master. Agencies: PADI, MAUI, SSI, and IANTD. Nitrox facility is also available.

    DIVE CONDITIONS

    Water Temperature

    Throughout the year, the water temperature allows diving in thin 3mm Neoprene wetsuits or Lycra suits. In summer months from October to April the Water temperature is around 29 degree centigrade and go down to 26 degree in the winter June/July.

    Visibility

    It varies between 10m and 20 meter throughout the year, with two exceptions. In January, the changing in wind brings colder Mineral rich water from the ocean resulting in large plankton blooms being experienced, which reduce the visibility to 8 meter. In April at the beginning of the raining season rivers wash a considerable amount of silt and nutrients to the nearer coral reefs and result in visibility down to 8 meter.

    Waves

    Waves are normally less than a meter high. Often the sea is calm in the morning, rather like an inland lake and various water port can be done like water ski, tube rides, wave rider and para sailing. Close t full and new moon, currents may require care full dive planing, but seldom reach more than one knot.

    Diving is good all year around.

    SOME DIVING SPOTS

    MBUDYA ISLAND

    Location

    This dive area can be reached within eight minutes and is situated 4 km South East from the Dive Centre facilities

    Description

    The island is surrounded by shallow coral reefs. These coral gardens are the nursery of large numbers of juvenile Wrasses, Angelfish and Butterfly fish. It is not uncommon to observe Devil fire fish clinging to the underside of corals. The continuos coral structures start at a dept of 2 m and drop to 5m on the West Side of the Island. This underwater paradise is very popular with families, since Snorkelling and Scubas diving can be done in the same area. On the other sides of the island, one finds drop-offs reaching a depth of 20m. The steep walls on the East Side and the underwater pinnacles nearly are resting ground of bull sharks.

    FUNGU YASINI

    Location

    This dive area, situated North East from the dive resort, is fifteen minutes ride from Seabreeze Dive Centre facilities.

    Description

    During low tide a sand island becomes visible. Which marks the Northwest corner of this incredible diving area. In the Centre section at a dept of 5 - 10m, there are endless chains of coral heads, which are home to Squirrel and Soldier fish, as well as large numbers of Butterfly fish. In the caves and overhangs, divers will find Moray eels and Lobsters. Cuttlefish can be seen floating around these outcrops, perfectly camouflaged by the coral and texture of there skin.

    The Southern end of this area has some of the most magnificent coral structure of the whole diving area. Some corals reach heights of more than 5m. Formed only by the one species. Dives is undertaken at a depth of 12 to 20 meters.

    The North side has magnificent vertical walls of 20m to a depth of 45m. Huge fan corals, some reaching 2m have found perfect living conditions on the side of the walls. In the period from November to January, Sailfish hunt along the edge of these walls together with King Mackerels and Jacks.

    Fungu Yasini is such a large dive area, with a verity of hard and soft corals, that Sea Breeze Scuba are still discovering new dive sites. For those who like to study the marine environment under perfect conditions, this is a place to explore.

    BIG `T`

    Location

    Big T is an underwater mount in the form of a T from Northwest to South east, with the top section stretching 2km and the leg section 1km. Situated 7km off the mainland. It's a Twenty-minute boat ride from the Seebreeze Dive Centre's base.

    Description

    The top has a width of approximately 100m and lies at a depth of 9 to 12m. Hard and soft corals vary with huge barrel sponges to provide home to 320 different species of coral fish. The sides fall steeply to 45m with several caves and overhangs on the seaside and on the inner side, gently slope down to a depth of 30m. Large numbers of game fish such as Barracudas, King Mackerel, Jacks, Tuna, patrol alongside the edge of the drop off. Shoals of Fusiliers and Surgeonfish provide the bait for these efficient hunters.

    ZANZIBAR

    Location

    Zanzibar is approximately 24 nautical miles from the mainland, resulting in sixty minutes boat ride from Seabreeze Dive Centre to the Southern end of the island.

    Description

    Zanzibar is famous throughout the world, for its spices, its old buildings and its importance in the days of the slave trade. Because of its historic value and natural beauty, Zanzibar has rightly been declaring a World Heritage Site.

    There are two dive sites, Kizim Kazi and Dolphin reef the dive sites are about 300 - 1000 meter from the shoreline were the sea floor slopes from 9 - 40 meter at King Kazi.

    Dolphin reef is a Plato at 18 meter with a straight drop to 36 meter with lovely caves and overhangs. Big Napoleon wrasse and Groupers can be spotted in these caves. Large groups of Butterfly fish. Schooling Coachman and Parrotfish are home in the shallow part of the reef. Huge schools of Fusiliers, Surgeonfish and Sweetlips patrol the drop off. The walls are covered with Damselfish and Goldies. Napoleon or Humphead Wrasse reaching weights of 200 kilograms is common to sight, as well as game fish such as schools of Barracuda, Jacks, Tuna and lots more. Sometimes large pelagic fish such as Manta Rays, Marlin, Sailfish and Sharks can be observed cruising close to the drop off. One of the highlights of the area is the regular site of a pad of Dolphins, which varies from Spinner, Bottlenose and Common Dolphins.

    Dolphin reef is a well-known site because of the snorkel trips with Dolphins that are arranged from Zanzibar Island.
