Children are too often the victims of conflicts that
adults create. Through their eyes, they gather all the
images of incomprehensive cruelty as spectators of a
game they do not yet understand. As adults it is our
role in society to provide them with the necessary education
and set an example as they in turn become the future
governing adults of our societies. But unfortunately
this is not often the case. Too often their games are
interrupted by violence and poverty and their lives
become just another consequence of the games that adults
play.
In this series of photos, Jonathan Alpeyrie, a freelance
journalist and creator of the Peloponnesian Agency (P.A.)
captured beautiful images of the Lacandon Indian children
portraying a unique view of a conflict yet unresolved.
Titled "Children of Chiapas: Smiles of Hope",
these photos were part of an exhibition held in New
York city and constitutes a unique opportunity to gather
some hope for a better future through the eyes of these
children.
