General description

Sharrcem is the only cement producer in Kosovo and main supplier of cement. Located in a small village of Hani Elezit, on the southern part of Kosovo and right on the border with Macedonia, it supplies cement through all over Kosovo.

Actually Sharrcem is operated by Holcim Group, one of the world's leading suppliers of cement, aggregates, concrete and construction related services, based on the Agreement for Lease, Management and Operation of Sharr Cement Plant signed on 13 June 2000 with UNMIK Pillar IV.

History

1936
Sharr Cement Plant was founded on 1936 consisting from one vertical kiln with production capacity of 4,415 ton/year that equals 2 days of actual plant capacity.

1972
Sharrcem was upgraded with a rotary kiln with clinker production capacity of 180,000 ton/year.

1980
The largest investment was made in 1980 with a rotary kiln with clinker production capacity of 525,000 ton/year.

2000
On 2000 Holcim entered into a 10-year leasing contract to operate the plant.
