In Angola, a monopoly ruled the certification market
until 2006. The liberalization of the sector allowed
Cotecna to enter the market the same year. The new
regulation came along with strict compliances regard-
ing timing and products.
Although Cotecna Angola specialized in pre- ship-
ment inspection (PSI), the company provides services
of risk management for customs and certifications for
the Ministry of Public Works.
In Angola, Cotecna currently has offices in Lobito,
Cabinda and Santa Clara and remains the best com-
pany for pre-shipment inspection. Their two main
competitive advantages are quality and fast service.
Some other advantages are the proximity of the head-
quarters in Luanda to the base at Sonils and all main
oil and gas companies, personalized service and spe-
cial attention provided to VIP clients and an additional
office reception downtown to attend clients who re-
quire Pip´s (Pre- shipment Inspection Request).
In the short term, Cotecna plans to open a new office
in Soyo and keeps on focusing in their client’s sat-
isfaction and developing complementary services to
PSI. Internally, they want to give more dynamism to
their activity and maintain a good social environment
within the company.

the country and its culture to adapt yourself and de-
velop your activity.”

Activity: Medical Services
Date of Creation: 1992
Clinica Sagrada Esperança originated as a medical
center for Endiama’s employees, with a small range
of doctors and a capacity for 200 beds. By the time
their demand and public demand was increasing,
CSE began its growth. In order to keep up with the in-
creasing demand and to maintain the quality of their
health service, CSE expanded and relocated to the
Ilha de Luanda. This enabled the clinic to improve
and extend the health care services and to differ-
entiate their offered services from other clinics. The
launching of the clinic was a new beginning for Pri-
vate Medicine and recovered the professional area
of the health sector.
At the time CSE performed a dual function; a place
where they would treat the sick and the clinic would
also function as a crèche and school for the children
of the employees of the company. This way CSE
wanted to demonstrate active participation in the
social humanization which was of increasing impor-
tance at the time.
The first director of Clinica Sagrada Esperança was
João José Bastos dos Santos. He was followed by
Eduardo Macedo dos Santos. The last and current
director is Doctor Rui Veiga Pinto. Doctor Rui Veiga
Pinto was asked to restructure and modernize the
clinic.
Continuing to be a part of Endiama’s Group, from
1995 they have adopted a business management
system, which during the years had proved its suc-
cess. The growth has been a reality in terms of qual-
ity, concretely in 3 main aspects:
Care with the human resources
A general overview of the technological and equip-
ment evolution
The need of extending their physical space, at this
last point they are planning to begin the construc-
tion of the new phase of the Clinic.
Besides the main center of CSE at Avenida Mortala
Mohamed the ilha de Luanda, CSE has facilities at
Talatona, two small centers at Maianga and some
other partnerships in Luanda. Cabinda, Soyo, Ben-
guela, Huambo and lundas are some other places
where they are already present, and they are start-
ing their activities at Lubango and Kuanza Sul. Their
aim is to be everywhere where their services could
