but good snack. It is about 200 meters away from
the American embassy, no apparent sign so pay at-
tention.
ENTERTAINMENT
BARS / CLUBS / LIVE MUSIC
Luanda has a plethora of live music venues for those
who enjoy havind a drink and enjoy the sea breeze
on Ilha do Cabo. The city also has a number of
places to welcome artists fom all horizons. Current
venues for important concerts include Cine Atlântico,
Cine Karl Marx, Cidadela Stadium and Estádio dos
Coqueiros.
Luanda International Jazz Festival is the most pre-
sigious musical event hosted in Luanda at the end
of July. In 2011, the third edition has confirmed the
growing reputation of this excellent manifestation
(see article below).
Cine Atlântico
Rua Eugenio de Castro
Bairro Vila Alice
Tel: +244 222 326 096
Built before Angola’s independence, the place con-
sists on an art-deco open-air cinema with no walls
but covered, a giant white ‘screen’ and stadium seat-
ing. The venue is a bit washed-up and old-fashioned
but so lovely. It has hosted the Luanda International
Jazz Festival and the performances of numerous in-
ternational artists.
Teatro Elinga
Largo Tristão da Cunha 17
Behind BPC Building
Bairro Ingombota / Marginal
Elinga Teatro is the temple of electronic music in
Luanda. The architecture of Elinga is quite unique,
opened on the Marginal on one side and view on
skyscrapers on the other. Entrance and side exten-
sions are dedicated to local artists exhibitions. A third
of the place is actually a theatre that turns to a dance
floor at night. The place also hosts an Electronic
Music Festival and weekly DJ performances from
nationally and internationally renown disc jockeys.
Although the place has an underground touch, the
audience can be nicely mixed and unpretentious.
