Main development projects include:
De Beers’ Mulepe-1 deposits at Lunda Nordeste
which investment evaluation phase is expected to
be completed by the second quarter of 2011. Addi-
tional drilling and engineering studies should com-
plete a feasibility study by 2012.
The Luxinge project, which is located in Lunda
Norte Province, covers an area of about 160 km2
and contained estimated resources of about 1.1
million carats of rough diamond.
Luana project led by Trans-Hex is located about
80 kilometers northeast of Lucapa in Lunda Norte.
About 20,510 carats of diamond were produced in
2010 as production started only in June. Resources
from the west bank of the Luana River are estimat-
ed to minimum 3 million carats.
Another project of prospection of secondary dia-
mond deposits over an area of 3,000 km2 in the
Cangadala region of Malanje province involves
Mineralstar and Sovinhos.
MAIN ACTORS OF THE DIAMOND INDUSTRY
The Ministry of Geology, Mining and Industry is en-
titled to:
• negotiate the mineral rights contracts,
• enforce mining laws,
• execute the Government’s policy regarding geo-
logic and mining activities,
• coordinate efforts regarding Kimberley Process
Certification Scheme (KPCS) compliance.
State-owned ENDIAMA is in charge of establish-
ing partnerships with international investors in dia-
mond prospection. The company can also enter in
joint venture with foreign companies operating in
the country. The subsidiaries of Endiama include
ENDIAMA Prospeção e Produção S.A.R.L and

SODIAM (Sociedade de Comercialização de Dia-
mantes de Angola) in charge of the marketing, sale
and trade of locally produced diamonds. The CSD
(Corpo Especial de Fiscalização y Segurança de
Diamantes) reports directly to the President: this
entity is responsible for ensuring the security of the
diamonds and collaborates closely with the Nation-
al Police and Customs.

GOLD
The Mpopo deposit is the largest primary gold de-
posit in Angola, some 36km south-west of Cassinga
in Jamba, Huíila Province. This deposit comprises
auriferous quartz veins, and has an estimated pos-
sible mineral resource of 700,000 tons at 8 grams
per ton. A partnership between the government
with the state-owned iron ore company Empresa
Nacional de Ferro de Angola (FERRANGOL), plans
