Activity: Oil & Gas operator

Total E&P Angola is part of Total, 5th largest pub-
licly-traded integrated international Oil and Gas
company in the world with a production of 2.28 mil-
lion barrels of oil equivalent per day and proved re-
serves of 10.5 billion barrels of oil equivalent as of
end 2009. Nowadays, Total is present in more than
130 countries and has over 96.000 employees.
Formerly known as Compagnie Française des Pé-
troles since its inception in 1924, the group has
strengthened its worldwide presence by merging
with Petrofina in 1999 (TotalFina) and with Elf Aqui-
taine in 2000 (TotalFinaElf). The final denomination
Total has been adopted in 2003.
Total remains the first oil producer in Africa and
the second operator in Middle East. The company
is involved in all aspects of the petroleum industry,
from upstream operations (oil and gas exploration,
development and production, LNG) to downstream
operations (refining, marketing and the trading and
shipping of crude oil and petroleum products).
Technology is key to reach growth objectives and
secure future new productions. Improvement of
seismic acquisition (WATS, Wide Azimuth Towed
Streamer), of seismic imaging and of 4D seismic
for reservoir characterization using acquisition with
nodes, which demonstrates the constant improve-
ment of Total’s expertise in deep waters. More de-
velopments for ultra deep offshore such as 3D wide
spectrum frequency analysis or circular shooting are
under study.
Total is a world leader in gas production and market-
ing and in power generation. As the world’s fourth-
largest listed producer of natural gas and one of its
top three liquefied natural gas suppliers, Total ap-
plies its expertise across the gas chain. Moreover,
the company is preparing for the future of energy by
progressively expanding the energy offerings and
developing complementary next generation energy
activities (solar, biomass, nuclear).
Lastly, Total is also a world-class chemicals manu-
facturer of petrochemicals and fertilizers for both
industrial and final consumer markets.
To meet growing energy needs on a long-term ba-
sis, Total’s strategy involves deploying a sustainable
growth model combining the acceptability of its ac-
tivities with a sustained program of profitable invest-
ments.
The history of Total in Angola begins in the early 50’s
with the attribution of the first concession to Petrofina
in 1952.
