such as FAO, IFAD, AfDB, WB, SADEC, and bilat-
eral cooperation agreements with the EU and some
American and Asian countries.
Despite the great potential of Angolan agriculture,
which is rich in cereal, cassava, sweet potato, ba-
nana and a wide range of fish and vegetables, it is
nowadays a weak economy sector. Therefore IDA
has an essential role for the development of agri-
culture in Angola, since we will only be able to fight
hunger and poverty by encouraging this sector and
assuring access to food for the whole population.
For this purpose, IDA works closely with ANIP and
AFDB, with a focus on both the technical training of
farmers as well as good human resources manage-
ment, in order to improve agricultural products in An-
gola and increase their competitiveness.

INIP is a government body in charge of writing tech-
nical and scientific reports and surveys about Ango-
la’s aquatic biological resources as well as the ma-
rine ecosystems and continental waters. They also
control the quality of Angolan marine biodiversity.
Angola has impressive fishing resources and 1,650
kilometres of coastline.
The government supports the development and
coordination of regional centres of fishing research
and the training of INIP specialists and support staff,
in order to enlarge the analysis capacity of the na-
tional aquatic ecosystem. Other activities aim to
reinforce the programme of biological sampling of
commercial fishing, to improve laboratory equipment
for quality control, as well as to develop action lines
for research into continental waters resources, which
definitely has an important role in the reduction of
poverty.
These activities complement the Angolan aquatic
