In 1947 Guido and his brothers Luigi, Mario, Aldo
and Ugo Grimaldi set up their own business by pur-
chasing a Liberty vessel, the same type of cargo ship
used by the U.S. fleet during the Second World War
that gave rise to the most important privately owned
European fleets. In Africa, they started their activity
in 1984.
Actually, the Grimaldi Group’s mission is to provide
efficient, reliable, innovative and high quality mari-
time services for the transport of freight and passen-
gers, following a continuous process of identification
of its customers’ needs and expectations. The Group
is committed to the pursuit of excellence, to social
responsibilities and to transport solutions which pro-
mote an environmentally sustainable mobility.
The Group has 127 ships worldwide, and it’s placed
at the 6th position on Roll on Roll shipping (Ro Ro
= only for wheeled merchandise) and between the
20th in containers service. They have recently ac-
quired 31 new ships, 11 of them multipurpose type,
5 of which are directly supporting the Angolan activ-
ity. These multipurpose ships turn Grimaldi genuine
at the Angolan Market, by having no competition in
these kinds of ships that can carry both cars, trucks,
tractors, industrial machines, project cargoes and
containers.
Grimaldi Angola was established in October 2006 as
part of Grimaldi group strategy to have own offices
in the main African ports, with 108 employees, 30 at
management and the rest at the terminals, operate
as dedicated shipping agent or Grimaldi Lines ves-
sels calling Angola ports. 95% of their charter con-
