Kuehne + Nagel is the global leader in international
forwarding, delivering integrated solutions across
the supply chain to turn logistics challenges into real
competitive advantages. The freight forwarding com-
pany was founded in 1890 and now operates in 900
locations in more than 100 countries and has 55000
employees worldwide. Sea freight, air freight, roads
and rails logistics and contract logistics represent its
core business.
The Angolan branch was open in 2000 as a strategic
move to enter a market full of opportunities. Kuehne +
Nagel was already well implanted in Africa and want-
ed to expand towards the west to assist clients from
the oil and gas industry, such as Esso, GE Oil and
Gas, Halliburton and Pride. Even though the petro-
leum related companies are growing, Kuehne+Nagel
also continuously seeks to diversify its client portfolio.
Perishable products companies are one of the many
companies that also trust Kuehne+Nagel Angola to
deliver their merchandise: in Angola Shoprite and So-
dexo import around 80 tons of food per month.
Kuehne+Nagel has the advantage to offer the cli-
ent a fully integrated service, from the origin until
the final destination. Documentation is often the
most difficult part of organizing the customs clear-
ance of merchandise, but the freight forwarding
company takes care of everything to increase the
rapidity of execution. As an international organiza-
tion, it benefits from a global IT system and track-
ing service that support the logistics of the freight. In
2010, Kuehne+Nagel Angola employs 115 workers,
95% of them are locals and training is done through
a standardized system.
It is already well implanted in Luanda and has offices
in Soyo, Cabinda, Lobito and Santa Clara. It offers a
preferable solution for clients who want their product
fast: it takes only 2 weeks from South Africa to An-
gola door to door by the road, whereas the maritime
transport is much more time consuming. Their road
freight is doing well since 2007, especially with the
congestion created by the intense sea freight. Kue-
hne Nagel Angola also is operating their own cargo
plane for internal domestic distribution and has a
shipping agency with several vessels going up and
down the west coast of Africa.
Moreover, Kuehne+Nagel services will benefit from
the improvement of the infrastructures in Angola.
Within the upcoming years, Kuehne+Nagel wants to
maintain its position and to grow more to offer logis-
