DON KIKAS
, born Emílio Camilo de Carvalho in
1974 in the city of Sumbe in the southern Angolan
province of Cuanza Sul is an Angolan musician who
spent his childhood in Brazil. His music is a mixture
of samba, kizomba and folk. His album Xeque Mate,
released in December 1999, achieved gold sales
and received Angola’s Album of the Year, Voice of
the Year and Kizomba of the Year awards. His album
Viagem features singers such as Cape Verde’s Tito
Paris and Johnny Ramos as well as Anolan artists
Bonga and Deusa.
YOLA SEMEDO
was born on 8th May 1978, in Lo-
bito, Benguela province. Her latest album Minha
Alma mixes kizomba, semba and the zouk it was
recently awarded a platinum disc by Angola’s direc-
tor for cultural action, Viera Lopes. The new album
also includes a contribution of Paulo Flores.
In Luanda, many initiatives to organize happenings
and promote Angolan artists are taken as for exam-
ple the 1ª Edição do Movimento de Jovens Artistas
Angolanos (JAANGO). You can find their contact

is an Angolan musician born in
Luanda in 1972. His music inspired by samba is

Kimbundu language, is often political dealing with
the hardships of Angolan life, the war and corruption.
Paulo Flores is the peace ambassador of Luanda, so
his tickets cannot exceed a limit of 5 $ per person in
Luanda.
WALDEMAR BASTOS
, born Waldemar dos Santos
Alonso de Almeida Bastos on January 4, 1954 in São
Salvador do Congo, current M'banza-Kongo). His mu-
sic combines Afropop, Portuguese fado and Brazilian
influences. He started singing at a very early age us-
ing his father instruments. He emigrated to Portugal in
order to escape the civil war at the age of 28.
