Reserva Natural de Mupa, north of the province cov-
ers a superficie of 6,600 km2 and hosts a variety od
animals such as girafes, rhinoceros, hippopotamus,
elephants, zebras and palancas negras.

Memorial do Rei Mandume, the last Kwanhama king

Mandume) were buried.
Fortaleza Roçada is located on the right bank of Cu-
nene river, in the district of Ombadja. It served as
a military base to organise actions to take over the
south of Xangongo.

Huambo province is located right at the center of An-
gola. The majority of the population is of Ovimbudu
origin and Umbundu is the most common language.
Main economic activity is agriculture. The province
has been deeply affected by the war and still under
rehabilitation to become a large industrial park due
to its strategic location.
There are important unexploited mineral resources
and infinite possibilities to develop tourism activities.
Huambo is accessible by road from Luanda, Ben-
guela, Bié, Sumbe and Huíla. The Benguela Railway
to Huambo is functional but you can also get there
by plane.
