Pakterminal is strategically and suitably located in all-year-round open Port of Muuga on the southern coast of Gulf of Finland. Proximity to Russian suppliers and the site's infrastructure provide efficient transportation over water to West, Middle and East-European markets.
Pakterminal's beginnings in Estonia can be traced back to 1992, when the company started construction work on a terminal with a storage capacity of 57 000 cmb, half of which was fully operational within 6 months. Although small in the terms of capacity, the company proved successful from the outset largely due to its rapid processing rate. The fast growth of the annual throughput figures led to further investments.
Pakterminal is a 50/50 joint venture company, owned by the Estonian private company Trans Kullo and Tankmaatschapij Dipping B.V. belonging to Royal Pakhoed N.V., Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Customers benefit from the unique combination of local know-how and experience in trade with Russia and the resources of a world leader in oil and chemical storage and handling.
Pakterminal has now become one of the largest independent throughput terminals of petroleum-related liquid products in the Baltic Sea area. The layout of the terminal allows for wide flexibility for simultaneous loading and discharging operations. Its railtankcar handling installations are capable of handling more than 250 railtankcars per day. All handling places can also be used for loading products from shore tanks or vessels into railtankcars.
The terminal facilities, its control systems and its modes of operations have been designed is such a way that the terminal will always be able to achieve committed throughput and storage operations, even under the most severe conditions. Terminal facilities were built and approved according to strict local and international standards for safe storage and handling of hazardous products.
Goodwill of harbour and railway authorities versed in all aspects to the trade in liquid petroleum products being most strict with regard to safety precautions and ship guidance, supports to deal with logistics matters and provides desired flexibility for trade.
