HISTORY OF THE BANK

Our Bank was established in 1972 as a branch-bank of Ljubljanska Banka Ljubljana, Slovenia and has operated as a branch-bank till 1978. Since 1978 the Bank has operated as Ljubljanska Banka - primary bank Skopje, as a part of a big system of primary banks within the frame of Ljubljanska Banka Ljubljana. In 1977 the first sub-branch in Ohrid has been established as a result of material and financial strengthening of the Bank. In the period 1979-1985 additional 9 (nine) sub-branches were established in another cities in Macedonia. Today, in year 2000, the Bank has 12 sub-branches, 2 of them in Skopje and 10 in the other cities. In October 1991 Slovenia separated from SFR Yugoslavia and declared monetary independence from previous federation-Yugoslavia. Macedonia declared monetary independence in March 1992 and the management of our Bank prepared conditions and documents to define the status of the Bank. According to the decision of the President of the NBRM Council dated 29th July 1992, the Bank was registered and was granted a license to work as a bank with great power of attorney in interbank payment system.The Bank's name was changed to Makedonska Banka a.d. Skopje, in October 1994, that was an important step in creation of its own image and reputation in Macedonia, Europe and all over the world.

The whole financial working of the Bank is directed towards its transformation into strong, efficient and profitable institution as one of the three biggest banks in Macedonia. Our Bank has staff of about 280 persons. We have 1.300 depositors, and about 2.300 foreign currency accounts.

BUSINESS STRATEGY OF THE BANK

In accordance with the business policy, the Bank would focus its activities on the following goals:

*Development of corporate banking

*Development of relationshio management and culture

- Taking full care of clients needs, including development of personalized products;

- Increase and strengthening of the credit potential, and policy of lending to SME-s

*Increase and strengthening of the credit-guarantee operations, through risk diversification to SME`s

- Increase of foreign payment operations, trade finance in cooperation with foreign financial institutions (financing of export trade covered with L/C, L/G).

Opening new correspondent accounts in the banks in Bulgaria, Turkey, Russia, Australia. i.e. where Macedonia is about to sign a free trade agreements.

- Preparation for execution of the whole payment operations in MKD instead of Bureau of Payment Operations (ZPP) in accordance with the new law for payment operations

- Increase of profitability

*Maintenance of sufficient capital adequacy and having a policy of realistic positive interest

-strengthening the activities of collecting account demands

-drawing the savings from the population with good policy of interest rate and consumption loans

-providing modern organization, strengthening of staff potential and equipping the Bank
