THE WARM HEART OF AFRICA LOOKS TOWARDS THE FUTURE

Transition of politics from one government to the other always creates upheavals but Malawi has managed to maintain relationships with its international organizations and donors as one way of moving towards private sector initiative. The government with assistance from the World Bank has embarked on the preparation of a private Sector Development strategy, which will focus the competitive advantage available to various existing, emerging and potential industries in Malawi." Since independence, the US has traditionally been our partner. We would also like to see more American people come and visit Malawi. I believe that the international community should come and invest here in a number of sectors.

We also have an excellent long standing relationship with the European Union," explained President Muluzi on the subject of the future of the country as an investment destination.

In recent years, Malawi has re-structured economic policy with a view to becoming an active player in the SADC region. With its emergence as a potential investment destination, government policy is to focus on poverty alleviation. The focus of tourism as the back bone of the future economy supported by the development of infrastructure will surely entice investors and tourists alike to " the warm heart of Africa" as it moves up a gear at the beginning of a dynamic new era.
