Celtel offers 7-day-a-week, 24-hour call centre

Celtel Malawi was commercially launched in October 1999 as the second cellular network operator in Malawi. A 15 year licence with a 5 year duopoly was issued. The license allows for Celtel to provide voice, fax, data and other value added services nationally throughout Malawi.

Celtel shareholders are MSI Cellular Investments BV (80%), Indebank of Malawi (10%) and Malawi Development Corporation (10%). Celtel currently employs 78 staff of which 98% are Malawi Nationals. The shareholders and staff are committed to quality service and a "Best Value for Money Cellular service".

Initially service was launched only as a Pre Paid facility but subsequently a Post Paid service has been introduced to the cater for the high end business/corporate customers. Celtel offers the latest in GSM cellular technology supported by well qualified, competent staff.

Subscriber growth has exceeded all expectations and Celtel is now preparing to extend it’s and enhance even further it’s products.

Celtel head quarters are situated at Celtel House, Limbe, Blantyre with satellite offices and showrooms situated in Lilongwe and Mzuzu. Sales of new connections are also handled by it’s authorised dealer channel.

Distribution of top up cards for the pre paid service, is covered by 80 dealers at conveniently located retail points throughout the country.

A 7 day a week 24 hour call centre is in operation manned by highly trained staff to assist customers whenever needed.

The network is also monitored on a 24 hour basis to ensure that the quality unrivalled service is provided.

Celtel is expanding its working to reach most of the country, from Karonga in the north to Thyolo/Chikwawa in the south

Network coverage presently extend across the areas of the Greater Blantyre and Lilongwe, Mzuzu, The road form Blantyre to Zomba, the lakeshore areas of Mangochi, Nkopola, Monkey bay, Salima and Senga Bay.

Coverage will be extended to other areas especially the border towns and larger farming communities in particular the areas of Mulanje & Thyolo, Chikwawa, Mwanza, Kasungu, Karonga , Dwangwa & Mchinji.

Standard Cellular services such as CLI & Voice Mail are offered on both pre-paid and post paid systems. Facilities such as call waiting and call hold will be offered on the post paid system only.

Roaming and Short Message Services (SMS) will be introduced by the end of September 2000.

International Roaming is initially established with networks in South Africa, UK, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Mozambique and Zambia.
