Jan de Beer
Chief Executive Officer, Eskom Enterprises Pty Ltd, South Africa


Mr. de Beer obtained a BSc Civil Engineering from the University of Pretoria in 1973, an MBL in General Management from the University of South Africa (UNISA) in 1980, and completed the advanced Management Programme (AMP) at Harvard Graduate School of Business in 1991. He is a registered Professional Engineer.

His career comprises working as a consultant in civil engineering before joining Eskom's New Works Department as an engineer in 1978. Activities were focused on capital project management for Duvha and Majuba power stations as project leader, and subsequently as Engineering Projects Manager for all new Eskom power stations and transmission lines. In 1991, he moved to the Distribution Group to start Eskom's electrification drive, and in 1994 was appointed Executive Director (Technology). In March 1999, Jan de Beer took up the position as Chief Executive Officer of Eskom Enterprises (Pty) Ltd. in replacement of Allen J. Morgan.

Mr. de Beer is a fellow member of the South African Academy of Engineering and a member of the South African Civil Engineering Advisory Council. He also serves as non-executive Director on the board of several construction and engineering consultancy companies.
