INFRASTRUCTURE: THE BACKBONE OF SIERRA LEONE

President Ahmad Tejan Kabbah has referred to the Rehabilitation of the country's roads as the "critical to Sierra Leone's reconstruction programme". In fact, infrastructure has become a priority in order to re-store unity and encourage commercial activity on a national and regional level.

"The first priority is to link the remote areas of the country" says El-Hadj Kebbey, Director General of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority. "We will first connect the villages with the towns, the main agricultural areas... because they are vital for the transportation of goods from the farmers"

"Accessibility is of key importance for the Government, without that there will be no progress in education, agriculture, health and many other areas of development" adds Kebbey, who is working closely with international donors to rebuild roads and bridges across the country.
