TRANSPORT

Although the transportation network was severely damaged during the war, the whole country has put huge efforts in rebuilding the infrastructure. Many bridges (see History) were destroyed, and temporary bridging or deviations created serious bottlenecks with increasing volumes of traffic. The total length of roads is 21.677 km, out of which 3.722 km are arterial highways, 4.104 km regional roads and 13.851 km local roads. The bridges are especially taken care of and many reconstruction programs are carried out to restore this patrimonial inheritance.

There are four airports in B&H: Sarajevo (with 280,000 passengers a year), Banja Luka, Mostar, and Tuzla. The only navigable river in B&H is the river Sava, where the river harbor is in Brcko. It provides connection to Europe through the Sava and Danube rivers.
