Brief History

The National Civil Engineering Equipment Pool MATGENIE was set up in 1967. It is an industrial and commercial public establishment with a legal status and financial autonomy.

Placed under the technical and financial authority of the Ministries of Public Works and of the Economy and Finance respectively, MATGENIE is headed by a General Manager who is assisted by a Board of Directors. It is represented in ten provinces of Cameroon with:

  • Acquisition

  • Maintenance

  • Renewal of civil Engineering Equipment

  • Hiring out civil engineering equipment to operators of the public and private SMEs

  • Repairing equipment for others

  • Technical inspection and approval of prototypes and imported or transformed vehicles

  • Training of operators and mechanics of public works equipment at the MATGENIE training centre in Yaounde and Douala.

    Territorial representation

    Operating all the over the national territory and in some neighbouring countries, MATGENIE runs branches in all 10 provinces (5 Regional Branches and 5 Agencies). These are backed by well equiped workshop.

    A pool of 400 machines comprising a wide range of public works equipment, all managed by a highly trained permanent staff of 218 workers.

    In addition, MATGENIE employs seasonal operators and mechanics during the peak of the road maintenance season (about six months per year).

    Workshop are equipped with state-of-the art machines such as crank rectifiers, over head cranes, test benches (transmission, engine and infection pumps) hydraulic pressure testers, hose assembly machines.

    Equipment overhaul all year round repairs not only of single but also of units of equipment

    MATGENIE itself because of it’s permanent quest for excellence; Cameroonian small-and medium-sized companies which, with the privatisation of road maintenance, are acquiring costly equipment; all industrial-sector operators specialised in machine mechanics and related fields.



    Courses offered?

  • To mechanics:
    Machine mechanics, electricity and hydraulics; welding and metal works.

  • To operators
    Operation of a wide range machinery; graders; bulldozers; front-end loaders; compactors…

    For how long?

    8 month in one session, with a possibility of specific training for periods of 2 to 4 weeks.

    Requirements for admission

    Admission on the basis of a file comprising:

  • A stamped application;

  • At least CAP, GCE Ordinary Level or equivalent certificate;

  • A copy of birth certificate (age limit: 35years)

  • A certificate of non-conviction, not more than 3 months old

  • A certified true copy of driver’s licence (at least B)

  • A medical certificate of fitness, not more then three months old

    Course content

  • For operators:
    General knowledge on mechanics

    Routine maintenance (1st and 2nd levels)
    Characteristics of paved and earth roads
    Practical training at works sites

  • For mechanics:
    Mechanics (knowledge of engines)
    Study of engine parts
    Dismantling and rebuilding of engines
    Breakdowns and diagnosis
    Practical in workshops and at works sites
