GET TO KNOW MTN CAMEROON

From its home base in South Africa; MTN’s expansion into the rest of Africa is crucial to achieving its clearly defined vision “ to become the leading telecommunications operator on the African continent. To improve telecommunications infrastructures and access throughout the countries in which we operate”.

MTN’s strategy is focused on development hubs around which clusters of business will be established. The three regional clusters are Southern Africa, Great Lakes/East Africa and Central/West Africa.

MTN has built a solid reputation based upon the development world-class networks, a superior quality of service and a commitment to people both customers and employees.

MTN is actively transferring these strengths and experiences to operations in Uganda, Swaziland and Rwanda, and now to the new operation in Cameroon.

Cameroon boasts one of the fastest growing economies of the Central African region. The country also has the distinction of being the first African country to use GSM (global system for mobile communications) technology for mobile telephony and rural telecommunications applications.

In February 2000, MTN International successfully bid for the privatisation of Camtel Mobil, Cameroon’s first cellular telephone operator, and the name of the operation was officially changed to MTN Cameroon Ltd.

This change has come with a new attitude, a new look and a new commitment to provide quality mobile telecommunications products and services that meet the needs of the people, coupled with a complete overhaul of the network equipment to guarantee improved capacity and to provide wider coverage to the whole country.

MTN Cameroon’s commitment to exceed its licence obligation to provide continuous general availability of services in all cities with a population greater than 50,000 within five years is well within reach. By the end of its first year of operation, MTN Cameroon will provide coverage to over 63% of the urban Cameroon population, and to more than 90% as early as 3 years after start-up.

MTN Cameroon is a youthful, dynamic, energetic and vibrant company with a philosophy to make affordable and efficient mobile telecommunications accessible to a wide range of people through innovative and unique solutions.

MTN Cameroon packages offer a wide range of Value Added Service, which will increase as the market demand for new products and services grows.

MTN Cameroon only achieve its objectives with experienced and committed employees, and has therefore recruited only the ‘Best in Class’ in all areas of the company. In order to augment the overall capabilities of the company MTN Cameroon is dedicated to both in-house and external professional and technical training.

MTN Cameroon is proud and excited to have the opportunity to play a significant role in the rapidly changing telecommunications environment, and as we continue to extend our services to the Cameroonian community, we remain steadfast in our pledge to provide you in the better connection.

    In order to realise our promise to our customers, MTN Cameroon ’s objectives are to:

    MTN Cameroon can only achieve these objectives by attracting and developing the “best in class” in Cameroonian and international excellence, empowering its staff by giving responsibility, as well as making people accountable, and developing a continuous learning/self improvement environment.

    During the short time MTN Cameroon has had the pleasure of serving you, we have come a long way, but this is only the beginning. We are proud of every one of our staff for their courage, dedication, tenacity and desire to be a part of the success story, which MTN Cameroon is developing into.

    MTN Cameroon “corporate culture” is based on mutual respect for individuals without prejudice to race, sex, religion or culture, and this is reflected in our “one team” of professionals of different nationalities, and cultural backgrounds blended together to create the “the winning team” with a common goal: to serve and satisfy the customer.

    MTN CAMEROON STEP BY STEP

    Step by step, MTN Cameroon is working towards providing its subscribes with a world class quality network and excellent service. The following events have taken place in the last few weeks:

  • The switch of network equipment from Siemens to Ericsson has been completed. This will result in wider coverage and better quality of service within weeks.

  • 55 additional Cameroonian nationals have been employed in all departments of MTN Cameroon.

  • MTN Cameroon has invested over 55 millions FCFA in various types of training in order to prepare for an increasing subscriber base. The training includes:

    * 60 MTN Cameroon employees have completed customer service training;

    * 56 new MTN Cameroon dealers are currently receiving dealership training;

    * 17 employees are undergoing technical on-the-job training with Ericsson; and

    * 3 technical employees are completing training on MTN technical and information
    systems in South Africa.

  • In line with our commitment to the development of the Cameroonian economy, MTN Cameroon has established valuable commercial relationships with local suppliers of products and services in areas such as media services, adverting, building construction and renovation, furniture, vehicles insurance, and professional training.

  • A market analysis has been conducted by a Cameroonian market research company to facilitate the development of packages that meet the needs of different segments of the target market.

    But why is MTN Cameroon not providing packages for great selection users immediately? During the initial stages of network development, the introduction of too many products may inundate the system and result in increased congestion. Therefore, the progressive launch of products for the wider population has been carefully planned in conjunction with the building of the network, in order to ensure the best service.

    MTN Cameroon’s pledge to improve the quality of telecommunications in Cameroon is soon becoming a reality. We appreciate the continued dedication and support we receive from our subscribers as we embark on the development of the network, because after all…

    MTN c’est nous!
