 FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS IN GHANA |
| 1.Central Bank | | The Bank of Ghana, as the Central Bank, has the autonomy and responsibility of managing Ghana's monetary policy. It also advises the government on the implementation of monetary policies.
It also regulates and supervises the banking and financial sector.
The minimum paid-up capital requirement for setting up a bank in Ghana is as follows:
# Ghanaian banking business -> not less than ¢5 billion.
# Foreign banking business - not less than ¢8 billion, of which not less than 60% shall be brought into Ghana in equivalent convertible currency.
# Development Bank for medium or long term financing of agriculture, trade or industry - not less than ¢10 billion.
| | Entry into the Financial and Banking sectors | | The minimum paid-up capital requirement for entry into the financial system is as follows:
# Deposit taking institutions (i.e. Savings and Loans) - not less than
# 1billion
# Non-deposit taking institutions (i.e. Leasing Companies) - not less than
