Energy & Mining
ton has honed exceptionally well. We collaborate
with our customers and industry partners to develop
technology that will yield game-changing improve-
ments in economically accessing global energy re-
sources.
We have established ourselves as a clear leader in
innovation and technology, and we bring that same
drive and determination to our sustainability strategy.
We adhere to high standards of HSE compliance,
business ethics and social responsibility. Being
diligent in these crucial areas enables us to identify
risks early and to manage those risks effectively, with
the ultimate result that we are able to provide supe-
rior shareholder value while fostering a sustainable
business and culture.
The guiding principles in our sustainability efforts
include leading the industry through innovation and
good stewardship of global energy resources, and
contributing to the economic and social benefit of
our employees and the communities in which we
operate.
In Angola, for example, Halliburton is working closely
with Sonangol, the national oil company, to ensure
that Angola’s citizens benefit from the development
of its oil resources. This 40-year record of involve-
ment has recently included helping local entrepre-
neurs acquire a nitrogen plant in 2009, a planned vo-
cational training center in Cabinda that will develop
local talent for the energy industry, a $500,000 com-
mitment for education programs in public health, and
a variety of company-sponsored and employee-led
community action projects.
Health, Safety and Environment
Long-term sustainability cannot be successful with-
out a strong commitment to HSE. We strongly be-
lieve that the safety and health of our employees
and the well-being of the environment are business
imperatives. In fact, we regard them as key meas-
ures of our success, and an integral aspect of ser-
vice quality.
