Lunda Norte province has important hydraulic mainly
composed of affluents of the Zaire river.
Diamond resources that can be found in abundance
in the alluvial beds of the rivers are the primary in-
dustry of Lunda Norte. The dominant ethnic group is
Tchokwe but Lunda, Camatapa, Luba and Cacongo
ethnies are also represented.
Thera are two airports in Lucapa and Dundo. Roads
access link the province to Saurimo, Luena, Malanje
and Luanda.

Saurimo Day is celebrated on the 28th March
Lunda Sul has been founded in 1978 and resulted
of the division of the former Lunda province. It was
home of Lunda-Tchokwe Empire, one of the most
important of the area.
The major historical event was the war that opposed
brotherhood Txinguiri and Txinhama to their sister
Rainha Lueji. The queen married Txipinda Ilunga, a
hunter of a lower ethnic group, provoking the ira of
her brothers by breaking the law of the empire.

SITES OF INTEREST
Museu Etnógrafico de Lucapa is one of the most
important museums of Angola but is under rehabili-
tation. It host a good number of valuable pieces of
Angola history. It was created in 1936 by Diamang
(Companhia de Diamantes de Angola) and was orig-
inally called Museu do Dundo. The new denomina-
tion was adopted in 1942.
Palácio do Governo and the Post Office buildings
are good examples of colonial architecture.
It is also worth mentioning the archaeological sites of
Bala-Bala, Luaco and Candala.
