Energy & Mining
This double development – onshore and offshore –
makes the Angola LNG project unique. The design
and implementation of this titanic project has been
conducted under strict control and in a responsible
manner whilst protecting the environment.
More importantly, the Angola LNG Project will
serve as a catalyst for Angola’s reconstruction and
growth, providing natural gas for local industrial de-
velopment, supplying clean fuel and valuable ex-
port products to foreign markets and creating 700
jobs in a challenging environment.
“Angola is ready to diversify its economy. There are
development opportunities in all the sectors. The
country is pacified and offers conditions conducive
to investment.”

Activity: Oil & Gas operator
BP in the World
BP is one of the largest energy companies in the
World, supplying clients with fuel for transport, en-
ergy for heating and lighting, distribution services for
petroleum derivatives and petrochemical products
for daily use.
The group operates on six continents and services
and products are available in more than 100 coun-
tries. As time passes, oil and gas reserves are be-
coming harder to find. BP uses innovative and state-
of-the-art technologies to find oil and gas reserves.
The World continues to grow, and as a result there is
a rise on energy demand from conventional sources
such as oil and gas, but also, increasingly energy
and technology from new and renewable sources.
BP is investing in new ways to generate energy,
from the innovative solar and wind farm technology
to advanced bio-fuels and clean technologies, such
as carbon capture and storage (carbon dioxide from
fossil fuels).
BP in Angola
With an investment superior to US$ 1,5 Bn per year
in Angola, BP places itself amongst the major inves-
tors in the country. Oil production as an operator
started in October 2007 with the Greater Plutonio
Field in Block 18.
By July 2010, over 150 million barrels of crude, with
an estimated value of more than US$ 6 Bn, had al-
ready been exported to World markets.
Block 18: Greater Plutonio Project
BP has a stake in four deepwater blocks. They are
partners in Blocks 15 and 17, operated by Esso Ex-
ploration Angola and Total, and in the Soyo ALNG
development. BP is the operator of Blocks 18 and
31, on behalf of their partners.
The Greater Plutonio Project, in Block 18 of the An-
golan offshore, is an important element. It was the
first and is currently the largest deepwater develop-
ment operated by BP in Angola. It covers an area of
5,000 sq. km, at depths varying from 1,250 to 1,450
meters and includes five fields: Galio, Cromio, Co-
balto, Paladio and Plutonio.
