In Angola, despite a complex economical and geo-
political environment since independence in 1975,
CPEA always maintained its activity and even man-
aged to recover from 1986 to 1992, thanks to the
Capanda Hydroelectric and the Luzamba Diamonds
projects in collaboration with OSEL and OMSI (Ode-
brecht group).
The strategic and technological alliance with Max-
am Corp International in 2002 allowed the newborn
Maxam CPEA to boost its activity. In 2005, the over-
haul has proven results: the introduction of new
chemical formulas and modern equipment improved
the reliability and profitability of the company. MCI
is providing total technical support to Maxam CPEA
that remains fully in charge of the local management
and operations.
In Angola, Maxam CPEA is offering 2 lines of prod-
ucts. Civil Explosives and Outdoors, providing the
Angolan market with high quality explosives. Signifi-
cant investments have been done to offer custom-
ers safer and more efficient explosive material. Raw

Activity: cables and cabling systems
Date of creation: 2007
Nexans is the worldwide leader in the cable industry
and offers an extensive range of cables and cabling
systems. The group is a global player in the infra-
structure, industry, building and Local Area Network
markets. Nexans addresses a series of market seg-
ments from energy, transport and telecom networks
to shipbuilding, oil and gas, nuclear power, automo-
material and all initiating devices are imported from
Europe and Brazil whereas the explosives are com-
pletely manufactured in Angola.
Main products are: ANFO and AMUNITE (granular
explosives), RIOFLEX and RIOGEL (Watergels) pro-
duced locally in their 70 ha plant in Kicolo since the
end of 2008.
Clients are both multinational and local companies
from different sectors: oil and gas, mining or civil con-
struction. Although the company operates mainly from
Luanda, geographical expansion towards other prov-
inces and African countries is under consideration.
Furthermore, the Maxam CPEA is ready to face new
challenges through the development of new indus-
trial lines for other mineral resources for which ex-
ploration is expected to start.
The company looks at the future with optimism, fo-
cusing in the long term and the best way to place
themselves in a new and stable market. Along the
years, Maxam CPEA has successfully answered an
increasing demand and is proud of having contrib-
uted to the reconstruction of Angola.
