CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS
Angola has great potential for cultural tourism based
on distinctive historical and cultural factors of the
people who inhabit it has over five centuries of
colonial occupation that left a series of fortresses,
churches, slave settlements and diverse monu-
ments.
An important aspect of the history of Angola and its
heritage relates to the foundation of the country, that
is to say the Congo kingdom established between
the V and VI centuries. Remains can be found in the
city of Mbanza Congo.
All over the country, notable archeological sites can
be visited, an exceptional example being the site of
Tchtundu-Hulo (Stone Age period) in Namibe prov-
ince. 300 classified monuments are being restored.
Muxima in Bengo province at approximately 60 km
from Luanda is the oldest church built in Angola dur-
ing the XVI century.
Other sites of interest include:
Fortress of Caconda built in 1682 and fort of
Humbe (1857) in Huíla province
Cave ruins of the fortress and paintings of Kibala
San Tiago de Lândana church and Cemetery Dos
Reis of Cabinda
Fortress of Roçadas and Mufilo monument in Cu-
nene province
Tomb of the great King and Mbianda-Ngunga war-
rior in Uíge
Funerary architecture on Muacawewe site in Lu-
anda Sul
Bala-Bala archeological site of Lunda Norte
Fortress of São Fernando and the old prison of Namibe
Ruins of the fortress of Pungo-Andongo and the
evangelical church of the Quêssua in Malanje
Dilolo fort and the ruins of Moxico Velho and much
more
Music and dance are popular in Angola that mixes
influences: samba, rebita, kuduro, kilapanga styles
are played all over the country.
Most common dances include xinganji, kizomba,
muqixi and rebita.

They are mixed with other ingredients to prepare
dishes served all over the country with variance
such as quizaca, mingeleca, machanana, fúmbua,
muteta, kapande, lombi, etc.
The most famous national drink are ocisanga made
of sugar cane, ovingundu, txikele, n’zuji, maruvo,
quissanga, kacipembeand owalende.
