Hansabank in Latvia

At the end of 1996 was formed Hansabank Group while the sales unit of Hansabank Latvia was established.

Year 1999 was a period of record-breaking development for Hansabanka. The bank strengthened its market position as the third largest bank by assets, became the market leader in several other areas, completed the merger with Latvijas Zemes Banka and started acquisition negotiations with a regional commercial Bank Ventspils UBB.

In 1999, Hansabanka paid special attention to product development and bringing new products onto the market. Hansabanka can now offer its clients the widest range of banking products in Latvia.
For our Latvian business, 1999 will be remembered as the breakthrough year. Hansabanka was clearly the local growth leader - deposits increased by 50 per cent, credits by 47 per cent and the customer base by 67 per cent. While Hansabank-Latvija was considered a merchant bank, Hansabanka - now operating under a new name and new brand - is positioned as a classical universal bank. It owns the largest ATM network and operates branches in all the main regions of the country.

Already in 2000 we hope to achieve the leading position in the Latvian banking market.
