ABOUT AmCham |
Over the course of its eight-year existence, the
American Chamber of Commerce has evolved into the
largest and most influential foreign business organization
in Russia.
The Chamber engages in an open, ongoing dialogue
with key Russian and U.S. government agencies, and
takes full advantage of visits to Russia by such
high-level U.S. officials as President George W.
Bush, U.S. Commerce Secretary Donald Evans, U.S.
Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill, U.S. Trade Representative
Robert Zoellick, and high-level Congressional delegations
to meet and brief them on the situation "on
the ground" in Russia.
LOCATIONS |
With offices in Moscow and St. Petersburg, the Chamber
regularly advocates members' interests to Russian
government officials and provides a forum for dialogue
between the American business community and local
governments.
AmCham also has a strong relationship with U.S.
Ambassador Alexander Vershbow and his Embassy and
Consulate teams of high calibre professionals, whose
strong interest and support are fundamental to the
Chamber's success.
EVENTS |
The Chamber has a program of high-level speaker
events featuring prominent government and business
leaders, as well as AmCham committee roundtables
and seminars on issues relevant to business. Members
are invited and encouraged to attend Chamber meetings
and participate in trade missions, conferences and
other events. Members also receive information distributed
by the Chamber on upcoming activities, legislative
alerts, and updates on issues affecting business
in Russia. |
POLICY SHAPING |
As a lead member of the Russian American Business
Dialogue, a business-to-business mechanism announced
by Presidents Bush and Putin at the Genoa Summit
in 2001 designed to complement the ongoing official
engagement pursued by the U.S. and Russian governments
on economic and commercial matters, the Chamber
has increased its ability to guide government policies.
During the Bush-Putin Summit in May, as a leader
of the RABD, the Chamber had a coveted seat at the
table with both Presidents and was the first non-Russian
organization asked to speak on issues related to
U.S.-Russia economic ties.
In addition to its work with both governments, the
Chamber strives to help resolve problems specific
to individual member firms. The work of AmCham's
17 industry and issue-specific committees has also
produced tangible results. Prominent examples are
the Taxation Committee's expert input into the process
of developing business-friendly provisions for the
new Profits Tax Chapter of the Tax Code and the
Small Business Committee's input into the State
Duma process considering President Putin's proposed
bill to facilitate the operation of small business
in Russia.
