Good infrastructure is expected not only to facilitate business activities but tourism as well. Minister of trade and tourism Valentin Vassilev initiated a Law for tourism that has recently been passed and special central and local agencies were established to promote and facilitate the sector that has good traditions in Bulgaria especially in seaside-tourism, skiing-tourism, mountain-tourism, hunting-tourism, culture-tourism. Now Bulgaria is gradually taking back its place as a leading tourist country in the region. Last year Bulgaria was visited by 2 336 000 tourists, which was approximately 7% more than in 1996. And more than a 10% increase is expected for 1998. The biggest part of tourists comes from Germany (36%), Russia and the former Soviet Republics (34%), and then come the Scandinavian countries and Great Britain.
