Telecommunications is another sector with good international presence and bigpotential.

Bulgarian Telecommunications Company , a national monopoly offered for privatization also needs investments that are expected from a new owner. According to Antoni Slavinsk i, President of the Committee of Posts and Communications: "It seems like one of the biggest privatization deals in Bulgaria. I think that the importance of this deal is not only the volume of the transaction. What is more important is that by this particular privatization a whole sector will be privatized. And this a sector that has an immense strategic importance and very big influence on the rest of the sectors in the Bulgarian economy". Mr. Marian Dragostinov , President of the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company, adds: "BTC is a center of a very attractive fragment in the international network and many large operators or alliances like Global One, Deutsche Telecom, France Telecom, Unisource, PTT- Netherlands. We can propose very reliable bases for the broadband communications - the ATM technology. We are interested in attracting foreign investors for the project which are very active with a quick return on investment - second GSM operator, international connectivity, business access network. We do not like to be a Telephone company only, we would like to be a information and telecommunications one. So, there are a lot of opportunities for investments".
Restructuring in the energy sector is still under way and the strategy for the development of this sector has just been approved. Mr. Ivan Shiliashki , President of the Committee of Energy says : "At the beginning of 1998 we also worked out a strategy for the development of this sector. It covers three stages : 2001, 2005, 2010. We have set out some development markers up to 2020. That strategy, of course, complies with the energy balance over these years and it takes into consideration the energy needs of this country based on the least cost plan and energy efficiency programs. A special priority is given to our energy projects along with the environmental and nuclear safety aspects. On these bases we have also elaborated an investment program which will be very active starting in 1998 and on, especially after the negotiations we had with the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and representatives from the EU. This program was elaborated in greater details and made more comprehensive and together with the laws that were amended : The Concession law , the Law on foreign investments, we created that special environment for foreign investments to be made in the sector".
