ABOUT THE REGION
The Matsushita Television Central Europe factory,
with 166,000 square meters, is located in the
city of Pilsen, the capital of West Bohemia. At
first you can see that Pilsen is not only a historical
town, but also an industrial one. Many trades
ensured the prosperity of the town. In the last
years the city has been taking taking step by
step a new, more attractive face and wishes to
be an appeal "entry gate" on the passage
from West Europe.
Matsushita considered 27 locations in the Czech
Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland before
choosing Plzen. The firm decided in favour of
the Czech Republic because of its stable investment
conditions and the offer of some specific local
incentives by the city of Plzen.
The Matsushita project was the first major Japanese
greenfield investment in the Czech Republic and
a major success for CzechInvest which brokered
the deal with the city of Plzen.
In January 1999 the Matsushita group opened a
second plant in the Czech Republic, in the town
of Plana in west Bohemia, which produces electromagnetic
relays. The firm will eventually employ 100 people.
In 2002, Matsushita established another company
in Pardubice, 60 kilometers east from Prague,
where they produce mobile phones.
