GOVERNMENT

Kenya is the most stable of the East African countries, if not one of the most stable ones of the entire African Continent. Apart from some tribal disputes, Kenya has been a peaceful country and has kept its democracy with great dignity. It has a multi-party system, however, KANU, is the dominant party and has been that way for more than half a century.

JOMO KENYATTA

Elected in May 1963 and ruling until his death in 1978, Jomo Kenyatta was the first ever elected president. Under his presidency Kenya developed into one of Africa's most stable, prosperous and peaceful nations.
DANIEL ARAP MOI

President Daniel Arap MoiMoi

Honorable Kenyatta's Vice President, became Kenya's second and present President. There was an attempted coup from the Kenyan Airforce in 1982, and other light conspiracies are recurrent. Nevertheless it is considered to be a stable government compared to many of its neighbors, and people must be content with the current regime since Honorable Moi was re-elected in 1987. Next elections will be held in the year 2000, which will offer the Kenyan people the opportunity to chose a new president.
