Information on Vostochny Port of Russia
On April 17, 1971, the construction of the new
deep-water port in the Russian Far East was made
a priority federal project.
Vostochny Port is located in the path of some
of the world's most important freight routes.
The port's location opens up exciting new vistas
for further development of its cargo-handling
facilities. The natural depth of 22 metres allows
even huge 150 000 metric tonne ship to enter the
port's ice-free bay all year round.
The importance of the port Vostochny is determined
by its location at the world's shipping routes.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia
lost more than half of its seaports. From this
it follows that in planning its ocean shipping
activities and to expand foreign trade this country
has to add some new ports to be either built a
new or to modernize those already available in
the Russian Far East. Port Vostochny, located
in the south-eastern part of Gulf Nakhodka, is
unique in the sense that it is deep enough. The
port was design to be the only one deep-water
port port in Pacific Russia.
At present the port is one of the biggest ports
in Russia, and as to its level of mechanization
-it is the best one in this country. The port
includes several multi purpose terminals but their
main difference from the other ports is its efficient
computer-aided specialized trans loading complexes.
The main activities:
· Stevedoring transit, export, import
cargoes
· Transporting cargoes
· Store cargoes and warehousing operations
· Store refrigerating containers
· Mooring operations
· Handle Ro-Ro ships
· Repair of containers
· Store cargoes in the customs storage
The Vostochny Port Joint Stock Company is the
biggest stevedoring company in the Russian Far
East. The port has year round navigation,a deep
water one, suitable for handling large tonnage
ships up to 150000 DWT., truck roads and railways
with other regions of Russia and the countries
of CIS join it. The shortest way from Asia to
Europe - Trans Siberian Container Lines- starts
here.
Annual throughput capacity of the port is over
18 million tons of cargo. Its berth line of 3.5
km includes 17 berths with depths ranging from
6.5m to 16.5m. The port consists of the largest
in the country coal and container terminals, a
timber terminal and several general cargo berths.By
the estimates of foreign experts, Port Vostochny
is the most sophisticated port in Russia. Taking
into consideration a high level of mechanization
of cargo handling operations. And the Coal Terminal
is the best in Russia. Constant customers of the
port are over 6,000 shipowners and shippers. Port
Vostochny has excellent prospects for further
development and for building up cargo handling
capacities. Besides, the port has six general-purpose
berths for bulk and general cargoes intended for
export, import and cabotage trade. Berth #13 is
a deep water one; its length is 210m; depth:13m.
Open storage area is 58,000 sq m.
The port fleet is a component of the JSC Vostochny
Port infrastructure too. It has high capacity pusher
tugs, capable of mooring the vessels with cargo
deadweight over 150 thousand tons, coastal tugs
(operating as far as 100 miles from the port of
refuge), pilot boats and roads boats as well as
the bunkering tanker with cargo deadweight of 250
tons. The highly qualified staff provide for the
round the clock trouble free operation and high
port service quality.
Terminals
of the port:
1- General Cargo Terminal. General Cargo
Terminal / Trans-shipment terminal No.1 comprises
three wharves, which are #11, 12, 13, and is specialized
in trans-shipping metals, timber cargoes, coal,
cellulose, chemical cargoes, breakage of black
metals, long size and heavy cargoes, bulk cargoes.
The Terminal is equipped with portal cranes of
16-40 tons load capacity each, mobile crane of
60 tons load capacity, warehouse re-loaders with
loading capacity of 20 tons each. Besides, there
are gathering arm wheel mounted tractors and wheel
mounted fork lifts, different capacity truck loaders,
articulated tractors with a set of trailers and
other support cargo handling equipment.
2- Container terminal. Container terminal
/ Trans-shipment terminal #2 is an infrastructure
component of the JSC Vostochny Port. It specializes
in handling export, import and domestic coastal
containers, road vehicles and general cargoes.
The terminal is located on Berths 5 and 6.
3- Coal Terminal. The Coal Terminal of
Vostochny port is a unique engineering technical
construction in Russia. It handles over 25 different
grade coal and coke and has a possibility to handle
over 12 million tons of bulk cargo per year.
4- Computing Center. By main direction
of activity of the Computer Center of Vostochny
Port JSC is the support and development of the
Common Automated Management System of the Transport
Junction (CAMS TJ)in Vostochny Port . CAMS TJ
is created on basis of functioning automated management
systems of technological processes, which earlier
- up to privatization of port, formed on a solution
Ministry of sea transport of the USSR, and now
- on a solution of the Board of directors Vostochny
Port JSC. The given system continues to develop
and constantly is supplemented in the structure
by a new management systems, in accordance with
emerging new technological processes in port.
Russian Minister of Transport Sergey Frank, was
satisfied with temps of Vostochny's port development.
Summing up results of the Primorsky transport
workers' meetings that took place February 11-12
in Vladivostok Minister announced that the next
seven years the objective of regional transport
industry would be to double working indexes. "Actually
the index should increase by 20-30% each year,
"- underlined Sergey Frank, - "this
is a very global object but the last year results
show that it's workable and realizable."
Judging by results of 2002 the throughout of Vostochny
Port increased by 30% and made up over 16 mta.
This year its capacity is increasing by 18 mta.
According to the words of Vladimir Popov, General
Director of Vostochny Port JSC, the port's turnover
is planned to increase up to 26,000,000 tons by
2006 at the expense of the traditional cargo base
extension and new cargo attraction. Estimating
the Primorsky Ports' development plans Sergey
Frank said: "Vostochny Port has the highest
prospects".
Applying to Victor Popov, Chief of the Far- East
railway, Minister of Transport declared that the
technological failure problem requires a new standard
of cooperation between coal industry, railway
and seaports. "We need a new standard of
the flexible work transit planning. And possibly,
taking into account the reform of Railway Ministry
and the appearance of new railway structures it'll
request certain structural changes, "- reported
Sergey Frank.
