The Pedras Negras de Pungo-Andongo are locted
116 km from Malanje city, the visits are usually cou-
pled with the waterfalls. The legend says that Queen
Ginga used to torture her opponents here, her foot-
prints are said to be marked in the stones.
CULTURE
Plentiful of ruins are scattered in the province: the
primitive dwellings and natural graves of Furnas da
Cacolo. Ruínas de Cacumbo, Fortaleza de Pungo-
Andongo (1671), Fábrica de Quisol.
Several cemetaries with great historical value are
worth mentioning: Cambundi-Catembo, Kizenga,
Caculama and Cacuso.
Igreja Evangélica do Quêssua is one of the very few
religious architecture sites that remain in the province.

Luena Day is celebrated from 10 to 15th of Septem-
ber. Addicional festivities include the old village of
Luso and the Mukanda celebration.
With a total superficie of 223,023 km2, Moxico is the
largest province of Angola. Most spoken language is
Tchokwe and six ethnic groups compose the popula-
tion: Tchokwe, Luvale, Umbundo, Bundos, Luchazes
and Lunda Dembo.
Most pepole live on agriculture. The honey produced
in this region is famous for its medical properties. It
is extracted from Mussixi and Muvuca trees.
The diversity of the flora is another characteristic of
Moxico, second timber producer after Cabinda.
The landscape is reknown for its luxurious vegeta-
tion on the eastern side, home of sensational fauna
composed of leopards, buffalos, foxes, elephants
and rhinoceros among others.
Luena’s airport can acommodate large aircrafts, oth-
er smaller airports are located in Cazombo and Lum-
bala Nguimbo. Moxico is accessible by road from
Kwanza Norte, Malanje, Lunda Norte and Lunda Sul.
