Tourism Industry
Kwanza Lodge is the perfect getaway for a week-end
the authorities, measures have been taken to pro-
fessionalize the sector: financial partnerships, legal
framework, logistical studies and trainings are un-
derway. In parallel, the necessary improvement of
infrastructure and transportation (train, roads) will
support the growth of tourism.
Recently, the PNUD (United Nations Development
Program) financed the implementation of a program
executed by the World Toursim Organization (UN-
WTO) that Angola joined in 1989. Actions included
collection of statistics to analyse the sector with ac-
curacy.
The perspectives of growth are excellent: the au-
thorities target a total of 2,6 million visitors for the
2011-2015 period and reach 578,000 annual visitors
by 2015.
Many projects are underway, notably the Hotel Dia-
mante owned by Endiama (176 rooms) or the prom-
ising Sana worth an investment of US$ 22 million
that include 230 rooms, 30 suites and a stream of
services of a 5 star hotel. The well-known insurance
operator AAA will soon launch a serie of hotels in the
main cities of Angola.
In total, the creation of 200 addicional units will pro-
vide over 39,000 jobs within 5 years.
Four areas with high touristical potential have been
identified to receive prioritary investments:
• Futungo and Mussulo in Luanda
• Kalandula in Malanje
• Cabo Ledo in Bengo
• Ovando Zembeze in Cuando Cubango
More importantly, tourism activities have to grow in
a sustainable way for long term results. The aware-
ness about environment protection should be key.
Angola has excellent conditions to develop eco-
tourism activities.
